Heavy-Removal Grinding Wheels for Angle Grinders—Use on Metals
A large grinding surface, combined with a thick layer of rough abrasive removes more material than other wheels. They are also known as Type 11 wheels, flared-cup wheels, snagging wheels, and cup stones.
Wheels are often used to grind weld seams and remove flaws from castings. The full backing provides additional support.
Wheels for steel are aluminum oxide, which is the most common abrasive used in grinding metal.
Caution: Use only accessories that have a greater rpm rating than the maximum speed of the grinder you choose.

Wheels are silicon carbide, which won't generate much heat. The full backing provides additional support.

Grinding Cones for Straight Grinders
Longer lasting than grinding bits, these abrasive cones remove heavy amounts of material and leave a rough surface texture. They have a threaded insert that attaches to the spindle on a straight grinder. Use in corners and inside castings.
Head diameter is measured at the widest point.
Cones for steel are aluminum oxide, which is the most common abrasive used in grinding metals.
Cones for steel and stainless steel are zirconia alumina, which grinds faster and lasts longer than aluminum oxide.
