Ball Bearings
Open bearings dissipate heat more efficiently than shielded and sealed bearings.
Shielded bearings block out dust and other contaminants, but do not dissipate heat as efficiently as open bearings.
Sealed bearings block out dust and other contaminants better than open and shielded bearings, but retain the most heat.

Permanently Lubricated Ball Bearings
A solid polymer lubricant surrounds the balls, eliminating the need for additional lubrication. Because it's solid, the lubricant blocks out water and dust, extending the life of the bearing.
Sealed bearings have even better resistance to dust and contaminants than open bearings.

Electrically Insulated Ball Bearings
Good for use in electric motors and power generators, these bearings have ceramic balls that insulate against stray current to prevent damage to the bearing. The ceramic balls generate less heat than steel balls, so they require lubrication less frequently.

One-Way Locking Ball Bearing Clutches
Internal locking elements (sprags) lock to transmit torque in one direction while turning freely in the other direction. Use them in applications where precision movement is required, such as pick-and-place and automated indexing conveyor systems. Shields keep out dust and contaminants.
For dirty or dusty environments, sealed bearings are the best choice, since they block out contaminants better than shielded bearings.

High-Load Crossed-Roller Bearings
The thicker inner and outer raceways on these bearings can handle heavier loads than the thin-profile crossed-roller bearings. The rollers face in alternating directions to allow for rigid, accurate motion under any combination of radial, thrust, and moment (twisting) loads. Use in applications where highly accurate motion is necessary, such as machine tools and industrial robots.

One-Way Locking Needle-Roller Bearing Clutches
The needles in these bearings roll freely in one direction, but lock to transmit torque when the rotation of the shaft is reversed. Also known as drawn-cup roller clutches. An arrow on the lip indicates the rotational direction that locks the bearings.
Single-row bearings do not support loads from any direction. To support radial loads, use with our Needle-Roller Bearings.
Triple-row bearings support radial loads.

Bearing Retaining Locknuts
With a nylon insert that grips your threaded shaft or spindle without damaging its threads, these locknuts—also called shaft nuts—hold bearings, bushings, gears, and pulleys prone to vibration tightly in place. They come as one piece, so you can easily clamp them onto your shaft or spindle. But, since they aren’t made entirely of metal, they don’t stand up to heat as well as all-metal locknuts. Slots in their sides mean you can tighten and loosen them with a spanner wrench or spanner socket. Their face is also chamfered to help keep the size and weight of your assembly at a minimum. All meet international standards for bearing locknut dimensions.
When choosing your thread spacing, consider the precision of your application. The finer the threads, the more control you have when making adjustments.
All carbon steel locknuts are strong and resist wear, though they don’t stand up to corrosion as well as stainless steel locknuts.

Bearing Retaining Nuts
Often paired with spring lock washers to strengthen their hold, these retaining nuts—also known as shaft nuts—keep vibration from shifting bearings, bushings, pulleys, and gears on your threaded shaft or spindle. They have slotted sides, so you can tighten and loosen them with a spanner wrench or spanner socket.
Chamfered-face retaining nuts weigh less and produce less heat than stepped-face nuts. Some meet ISO 2982 (formerly DIN 981), an international standard for bearing locknut dimensions. Their sizes correspond to SKF KM series. Use them with DIN 5406 spring lock washers.
