Cobalt Steel Drill Bits for Stainless Steel and Nickel

Cobalt steel and a titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) coating provide the heat and wear resistance necessary for drilling in stainless steel and nickel alloys. These bits have parabolic spiral flutes, which lift chips out of the hole to reduce clogging and improve coolant flow. They are jobbers' length and have the rigidity and length required for most hand-held drilling and machine tool applications.

With better heat and wear resistance than high-speed steel, cobalt steel bits can run up to 25% faster and have a longer tool life. Also known as reverse-flute bits, the flutes spiral in the opposite direction of other bits. Use in counterclockwise drilling applications such as removing broken screws. These bits are maintenance length, also known as mechanics’ length. They are shorter and more rigid than jobbers’ bits but longer than short-length bits. The split point keeps the bit centered without a pilot hole.
