About Countersinks
Countersinks cut a cone-shaped opening to install screws and rivets flush with a surface or hold workpieces between centers on a lathe. They can also be used for chamfering and deburring.

Carbide Drill-Point Countersink Sets with Two Countersinking Ends for Screws

For excellent performance on hard and abrasive materials, carbide is harder, stronger, and more wear resistant than high-speed steel. The countersinks in these sets require rigid tool holding to prevent breakage and are not for use with hand-held tools. All have a small drill point on the tip for drilling and countersinking holes with the same tool. The drill point creates a small pilot hole at the bottom of the countersunk hole to facilitate drilling. An 82° countersink angle is compatible with the profile of flat- and oval-head inch screws; a 90° countersink angle is compatible with the profile of flat- and oval-head metric screws and is also good for deburring. When one end of the countersink dulls, turn it around for a sharp cutting edge.
TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coated countersinks last longer than uncoated countersinks and are best for general purpose cuts as well as for use on aluminum.
TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coated countersinks are the best choice for materials up to a Rockwell hardness of C50. They are not for use on aluminum.
AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coated countersinks are for high-speed machining on materials with a Rockwell hardness up to C70. They are not for use on aluminum.
