Hex-Shank Tap and Drill Bit Sets

Image of Product. Front orientation. Tap and Drill Bit Sets. Hex-Shank Tap and Drill Bit Sets.
Drill and tap a variety of hole sizes. These taps and drill bits are for use on metal and plastic.
Uncoated High-Speed Steel Tap—Uncoated high-speed steel taps have a longer tool life than carbon steel. They are strong enough for most jobs but don’t last as long as other high-speed steel taps. Use them for small-scale jobs.
Plug Chamfer—Plug-chamfer taps are a versatile choice for most tapping applications. With 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, they require moderate torque and are often used for start-to-finish tapping of through holes and closed-end holes. However, they do not start threads as easily as taper chamfers. When using them to tap closed-end holes, be sure to leave sufficient space at the bottom for chips to accumulate.
Black-Oxide High-Speed Steel Drill Bit—Black-oxide high-speed steel drill bits have a longer tool life than carbon steel. They cut with less friction than uncoated drill bits.

Use these end mills for general purpose work in most material, such as aluminum, brass, bronze, iron, and steel. The teeth are angled in two directions so you can make top and bottom chamfers without having to flip the workpiece.

Made of carbide-tipped high-speed steel, these end mills provide a sharper, harder edge at high temperatures than plain high-speed steel. Because they aren’t as brittle as solid carbide, they can be used in less rigid setups, such as manual milling machines. The teeth are angled in two directions so you can make top and bottom chamfers without having to flip the workpiece.
Uncoated—Use uncoated end mills for general purpose milling and short production runs. They stay sharper than coated end mills when used on soft materials like aluminum, leaving a better finish.
Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coated—Titanium nitride (TiN)-coated end mills create less friction than uncoated end mills, which means they last longer when run at similar speeds. Use coated end mills for demanding, high-speed jobs in hard material as well as for longer production runs. The coating reduces friction and vibration as they’re used, making them more wear resistant than uncoated end mills.
Titanium Carbon Nitride (TiCN) Coated—Titanium carbon nitride (TiCN)-coated end mills have a hard, smooth finish that resists chipping and wear and prevents material from accumulating on the cutting edge. They’re especially good for use in aluminum. Use coated end mills for demanding, high-speed jobs in hard material as well as for longer production runs. The coating reduces friction and vibration as they’re used, making them more wear resistant than uncoated end mills.
Aluminum Titanium Nitride (AlTiN) Coated—Aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN)-coated end mills dissipate heat better than other end mills, especially at high speeds. At high temperatures, the coating creates a layer of aluminum oxide that transfers heat to the chips, keeping the tool cool, even when used without lubrication. Use coated end mills for demanding, high-speed jobs in hard material as well as for longer production runs. The coating reduces friction and vibration as they’re used, making them more wear resistant than uncoated end mills.
