Tap, Die, and Drill Bit Sets

Image of Product. Front orientation. Tap, Die, and Drill Bit Sets.
Cut and repair threads and drill holes in many different sizes. Tap and die wrenches are included. The dies are hex shaped for use with conventional wrenches. The taps are made of carbon steel and are recommended for thread repair and occasional tapping.
Taper Chamfer—Taper chamfer taps have 7-10 chamfered threads at the tip for cutting into the workpiece. They require less torque than other chamfer types, making them a good choice for starting threads and tapping through holes. However, a longer taper means that they cannot thread as close to the bottom of closed-end holes.
Plug Chamfer—Plug chamfer taps are a versatile choice for most tapping applications. With 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, they require moderate torque and are often used for start-to-finish tapping of through holes and closed-end holes. However, they do not start threads as easily as taper chamfers. When using them to tap closed-end holes, be sure to leave sufficient space at the bottom for chips to accumulate.

Drill and tap a variety of hole sizes. These taps and drill bits are for use on metal and plastic.
Uncoated High-Speed Steel Tap—Uncoated high-speed steel taps have a longer tool life than carbon steel. They are strong enough for most jobs but don’t last as long as other high-speed steel taps. Use them for small-scale jobs.
Plug Chamfer—Plug-chamfer taps are a versatile choice for most tapping applications.
Black-Oxide High-Speed Steel Drill Bit—Black-oxide high-speed steel drill bits have a longer tool life than carbon steel. They cut with less friction than uncoated drill bits.

Chip-Clearing Tap and Drill Bit Sets for Through Holes

Image of Product. Front orientation. Tap and Drill Bit Sets. Chip-Clearing Tap and Drill Bit Sets for Through Holes.
Also known as gun taps, the taps in these sets have spiral-point flutes that push chips ahead of the tap and out of through holes. Because they don't need to be reversed to prevent buildup, they produce threads more efficiently than standard taps and are suitable for production work. Taps have a square shank for compatibility with tap wrenches and tap holders for drill presses and milling machines. With a plug chamfer, they have 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, so they're suitable for start-to-finish tapping. All taps and drill bits are made of high-speed steel for use on most metal and plastic.

Quick-Change Hex Shank Drill Taps for Drills and Screwdrivers

Image of Product. Front orientation. Drill Taps. Quick-Change Hex Shank Drill Taps for Drills and Screwdrivers.
Save time when you need to change drill taps frequently. The grooved shank snaps directly into drills, power screwdrivers, and other tools that accept a 1/4" hex shank. However, they’re not rated for impact drivers. With a drill bit point to drive into the workpiece, these taps can drill and tap holes in a single step. They’re made of high-speed steel and are for use on most metal and plastic.
Their spiral flutes keep chips clear by drawing them back toward the tap and out of the hole. All have a plug chamfer with 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, so they’re suitable for start-to-finish tapping.
Uncoated High-Speed Steel—Uncoated taps are strong enough for most tapping jobs but have the shortest tool life.
Titanium Nitride (TiN)-Coated High-Speed Steel—Titanium Nitride (TiN) coated taps resist heat and wear better than uncoated taps, letting them last up to twice as long.

    Threaded Mount

Thread these chucks onto the spindle of portable drills and stationary machines to hold bits. They're a keyed chuck, so they hold the bit tightly, preventing it from slipping under load. Use the included key to tighten and loosen the jaws. If your machine doesn’t have a threaded spindle, mount them with a threaded drill chuck arbor.
To maximize grip and minimize wobble, choose a chuck where your drill bit diameter falls in the middle of the shank size range.
Medium Duty—Medium duty chucks work for most drilling jobs in metal, wood, and plastic. A one-piece sleeve keeps them rigid when drilling in hard materials, such as steel. For accuracy and longevity, they have hardened wear points and center-ground jaws that grip the bit evenly.

Made of stainless steel, these chucks maintain smooth, precise operation even when exposed to moisture and chemicals. They're keyless, letting you swap bits in and out with a quick twist of the sleeve. Use them for low-torque, high-speed drilling. As torque increases, their grip tightens on the bit. Mount them to the threaded spindles of handheld drills. For machines without spindles, mount them to a threaded drill chuck arbor.
A through hole allows long bits to pass through without hitting the back of the chuck. They can also be used on an electrical discharge machine to hold electrodes and let fluid pass through.
To maximize grip and minimize runout, choose a chuck where your drill bit diameter falls in the middle of the bit shank size range.
McMaster-Carr Approved—McMaster-Carr approved chucks are made on the same equipment that once produced Jacobs chucks in Europe, so you get high-quality performance without the brand-name price. Their sleeve is smooth, so it's easy to clean and won't tear disposable gloves. They use NSF registered H1 grease that is safe for use in food processing areas as long as it doesn't directly touch food.

Even when exposed to moisture and chemicals, these stainless steel chucks maintain smooth, precise operation. They’re keyed, so their jaw locks securely around bits—use the included key to tighten and loosen their hold. Thanks to their grip, they’re great for high-torque, low-speed drilling in hard materials.
Jacobs—Jacobs chucks are the most widely used drill chucks. They don’t contain lubricant, so they won’t contaminate your work area or accumulate dust. They’re great for sensitive areas, such as medical environments.
McMaster-Carr Approved—McMaster-Carr approved chucks are made on the same equipment that once produced Jacobs chucks in Europe, so you get high-quality performance without the brand-name price. They use NSF registered H1 grease that is safe for use in food processing areas as long as it doesn't directly touch food.

Mill an angled edge to the entire outside diameter of pipe, tubes, and rods in a single pass with more speed and precision than a handheld scraper. These end mills deburr pipe and tube for butt welds and shape rods for sliding into housings and holes. They attach to screw machines, lathes, and drill presses and can be set up to repeat cuts for multiple pipes. Staggered cutting edges reduce vibration, resulting in a smooth finish. They have teeth that distribute cutting force and extend the life of the tool. Made of high-speed steel, they work with a variety of metals.
