    File Sets

Keep multiple files on hand for workpieces of different shapes and sizes.
All sets include American-pattern files, also known as machinists' files.
Don't see the set you need? Create your own with a tool roll and individual files.

Double-Cut Face—Surface has two sets of diagonal teeth and is often used with heavier pressure than single cut for rapid material removal.
Single-Cut Face—Surface has one set of diagonal teeth and is often used with light pressure to slowly remove material and sharpen tool-cutting surfaces.
Single-Cut Face with Chip Breaker—Speed up reaching a fine finish. They remove material as quickly as double-cut files while leaving behind a smooth finish at the same time. They have single-cut teeth divided by diagonal cutting edges that act as chip breakers—the chip breakers rough the surface while the single-cut teeth smooth it.
Painted Steel Handle—Files with painted steel handles have a single-piece construction.
Rubber Handle—Files with rubber handles have a cushioned, comfortable grip.
Black Oxide—Files with a black-oxide finish resist rust and clogging.

    Detail Polishing Stone Assortments

Keep stones in different grits on hand to smooth ribs, slots, teeth, and other fine features. The stones in these assortments are thin enough to slip into hard-to-reach areas. Made of bonded ceramic, they’re harder and more wear resistant than aluminum oxide stones, but flexible enough not to crack under pressure. Pair these stones with a holder to polish by hand or with a power tool, such as an ultrasonic polisher. Some holders are sold separately. Apply a water-soluble or oil-based lubricant to help keep debris from building up on the surface.

Ceramic/Diamond Blend Abrasive—Ceramic/diamond stones have diamond particles spread throughout the ceramic to make them harder and sharper. They won’t wear out as quickly as plain ceramic stones when finishing hardened steel, carbide, and other extremely hard materials.

Keep multiple sizes of scrapers on hand for deburring a range of small holes. Thanks to their triangular blade, you can use these scrapers to smooth out both the front and back edges of a hole. The blade rotates 90° each time you push the button on the base of the handle. To deburr the front hole edge, start with the blade facing away from you. Pushing the button rotates the blade so it’s inline with the handle, making it slim enough to pass through the hole. Once it's through, rotate the blade a second time to face back towards the hole so you can deburr the back edge.

Keep multiple abrasive grain sizes on hand to sharpen blades. Convert leather and wood surfaces into sharpening stations to give your tool a fine finish. These compounds contain diamond abrasive grains, which are hard, fast cutting, and long lasting. They're used on leather strops and other flat surfaces to sharpen straight blades. To sharpen curved blades, you can also use these compounds on curved surfaces. Start with the largest abrasive grain size, then move to smaller sizes to sharpen your blade to a progressively finer edge.
