Replace the metal-halide light bulbs in your fixture.
Bulbs for open fixtures have a strong outer shell to keep them from shattering if they fail.
Bulbs with an EX39 base can also be used in E39 sockets.
Plastic-coated glass bulbs are shatter resistant. If the glass breaks, the coating keeps shards from falling.
Bulbs that cannot be sold to Canada exceed local regulatory limits on mercury content.
