Also known as build sheets, these print surfaces adhere to the printer beds of fused filament fabrication (FFF) printers to create a build surface for all types of filaments. More durable than masking tape, easier to take off than glue, and better than printing on a bare bed, they grip the first layer of your printed part and firmly hold it in place during the print to prevent warping. Once cooled, you can easily remove the part from the print surface without damaging the part or the surface. You can also remove the print surface from the printer bed without leaving a sticky residue behind, making surface changes quick and easy.
All are heat resistant and durable, so they can be used multiple times. Use them to protect your printer beds from cracking due to rapidly changing temperatures—it’s cheaper and easier to replace a print surface than a printer bed. Cut the print surfaces to size with scissors, peel off the backing, and stick them in place.
Plastic-blend print surfaces deliver the strongest hold and are good for use with filaments that are prone to warping, such as polycarbonate. They may be too strong for some polyester-based filaments, making it difficult to remove. These print surfaces have a coarse texture, so the bottom of your part will not be as smooth as those made from PEI or polycarbonate. Use them on both heated and unheated printer beds.
PEI print surfaces are the longest lasting print surfaces. They are also the easiest to release, making them good for sticky filaments like PETG. They have a smooth texture, which will leave a smooth finish on the bottom of your part. Use them on both heated and unheated printer beds.
Polycarbonate print surfaces are available for use on heated or unheated printer beds. All have a smooth texture, which will leave a smooth finish on the bottom of your part. Print surfaces for heated printer beds are particularly good for use with nylon filaments. Those for unheated printer beds are good for PLA and flexible TPU filaments.
Use the primer and smoothing tools to remove wrinkles and trapped air bubbles that can occur when applying large print surfaces.
