About Paint and Protective Coatings

Paint for Metal

Paint metal surfaces to stop rust from starting and prevent existing rust from spreading. Scrape rusty areas clean before application. Although primer is not required for use on all materials, it can be used to prepare any surface to maximize the life and corrosion resistance of paint.
Acrylic paint is water-based and can be cleaned up with soap and water. It’s also known as latex paint. Paint in an aerosol can does not require a primer. Spray paint on, and then increase the temperature two to three times (450° to 650° F), allowing surface to cool between firings.
Apply paint in a one-gallon can with a brush, roller, or sprayer.
Safety-color paint comes in colors approved by OSHA to color-code safety equipment locations, physical hazards, and protective equipment. Safety green indicates general safety and is often used to identify first aid kits and other medical equipment and to explain safety procedures.

Paint

Enhance, renew, and protect surfaces.
Solvent-based paint keeps its color longer than water-based paint when used outdoors.
Safety-color paint comes in colors approved by OSHA to color-code safety equipment locations, physical hazards, and protective equipment. Safety green indicates general safety and is often used to identify first aid kits and other medical equipment and to explain safety procedures.
Paint that cannot be sold to the regions listed exceed local regulatory limits on VOC (volatile organic compounds).
Low-Odor Paint

This paint is formulated to produce less odor than typical paint.
Safety-color paint comes in colors approved by OSHA to color-code safety equipment locations, physical hazards, and protective equipment. Safety green indicates general safety and is often used to identify first aid kits and other medical equipment and to explain safety procedures.
Paint that cannot be sold to Canada exceeds local regulatory limits on VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and 2-butoxyethanol.

Polyurethane Coatings for Metal

These polyurethane-based coatings resist moisture, corrosion, abrasion, and impact better than paint and have excellent color retention. They're often used as a topcoat over epoxy coatings. Apply with a brush, roller, or sprayer. They cannot be sold to the regions listed due to local chemical regulations, including limits on VOC (volatile organic compounds).
Safety-color coatings come in colors approved by OSHA to color-code safety equipment locations, physical hazards, and protective equipment. Safety green indicates general safety and is often used to identify first aid kits and other medical equipment and to explain safety procedures.
