Rotary Shafts

Combine these general purpose drive shafts with gears, sprockets, and bearings to transmit rotary motion. All are precision ground to meet tight diameter and straightness tolerances.
Steel shafts are generally stronger than stainless steel shafts but not as corrosion resistant. 12L14 carbon steel shafts have a lead additive that makes them easier to machine than any other rotary shaft but also more prone to wear. Stainless steel shafts are more corrosion resistant than steel shafts but also more difficult to machine. 316 stainless steel shafts have excellent corrosion resistance.
Shafts with chamfered edges have their edges ground to reduce damage to bearings, housings, and other components during installation.

Linear Motion Shafts

Smooth, hard, and wear resistant, linear motion shafts work with linear bearings to reduce friction in manual and automated systems, such as those found in packing, machine tool, and material handling operations. The smooth surface reduces friction and wear on the bearing—the lower the microinch value a shaft has, the smoother its finish and the less friction it will create. All are turned, ground, and polished to tight diameter and straightness tolerances.
Stainless steel shafts are more corrosion resistant than steel shafts; however, they’re not as hard as steel shafts and can be more difficult to machine. 17-4 PH stainless steel shafts have excellent corrosion resistance and high yield strength to support heavy loads.
Hardened shafts are heat treated for increased wear resistance.

Ultra-Formable 260 Brass Rods

- Yield Strength:
Inch sizes: Not Rated
Metric sizes: 9,000 psi - Hardness: Not Rated
- Temper: H01 (1/4 Hard)
- Heat Treatable: No
- Specifications Met: ASTM B134
The most formable brass we offer, 260 offers better weldability than 300 series brass but it’s not as machinable. Sometimes called cartridge brass, it's commonly used for ammunition casings, radiator components, and decorative door hardware.

High-Temperature Ultra-Dense Tungsten Rods

- Maximum Temperature: 2,300° F
- Yield Strength: Not Rated
- Hardness: Rockwell C35 (Hard)
- Temper Rating: Not Rated
Ultra dense for use as electrodes, furnace support pillars, and screws and bolts, these chemically pure tungsten rods withstand greater heat than other high-temperature metal, such as molybdenum. You can also use them in applications where voltage increases may cause temperature spikes that other metal can’t handle. These rods won’t deform in high heat, so they last longer than other metal. However, they’re harder to machine than more ductile tungsten alloys. These rods won’t corrode from chemicals or weather.

Dowel Pins

Use dowel pins as pivots, hinges, shafts, jigs, and fixtures to locate or hold parts. For a tight fit, your hole should be equal to or slightly smaller than the diameter shown. Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.
Steel pins are the strongest dowel pins. Steel pins are precision ground except for 1/32" diameter pins. Stainless steel pins are more corrosion resistant than steel pins. Pins that are passivated offer added protection against corrosion and oxidation. Stainless steel pins are precision ground except for 1/64" diameter pins. 18-8 stainless steel pins offer a balance of strength and corrosion resistance. They may be mildly magnetic. 316 stainless steel pins have the best corrosion resistance of our stainless steel pins. They may be mildly magnetic. 416 stainless steel pins are more wear resistant than other stainless pins, but not as corrosion resistant. They are magnetic.
