Premium Blade-Quality 420V Stainless Steel Bars

A top pick for knives, 420V holds the sharpest edge of all our stainless steel. It contains vanadium, so it's harder and stronger than other 400 series types. This makes it a good alternative to tool steel in food- and chemical-processing applications when you also need corrosion resistance. The maximum temperature for corrosion resistance isn't rated. Also known as S90V stainless steel.

Also called flat stock, these precision-ground bars are held to tight thickness and width tolerances.

Highly wear resistant, 420 stainless steel is used for wrenches, shafts, and other parts that frequently grind against metal. High carbon content boosts its hardness and strength. Yet like other 400 series stainless steel, 420 is less corrosion resistant than 304. It maintains its corrosion resistance in temperatures up to 1150° F.

Hardened Highly Wear-Resistant 420 Stainless Steel Balls

Often used for bearings, detents, and locking mechanisms, these 420 stainless steel balls balance hardness with corrosion resistance. They resist corrosion better than 440C, but they’re slightly softer, so they wear more quickly. They’re passivated to wash away surface particles that cause rust, and they’re polished to a mirror-like finish that contaminants can’t stick to. The result is balls that stay smooth and stand the test of time—even at temperatures up to 750° F. They’re made to strict ISO 3290 standards for roundness and surface quality.

These balls are magnetic, so you can use them in separators, sensors, and automated handling systems that use magnetic pickup or positioning.

Grade 100—Great for mechanical applications where you don’t need the exacting tolerances of Grade 25.
