To prevent conveyor belts from slipping, stick these coatings onto pulleys using adhesive. Unlike traditional coatings, there’s no need to remove the pulley from your system to apply them. They also protect pulleys from wear, so they last longer. These coatings are commonly known as lagging.
Projection coatings are light duty; use them with small-diameter pulleys. Moisture flows between the projections, which helps them keep a good grip on the belt. They work well in dry environments.
Ribbed coatings trap water and debris, and shed them as the conveyor runs to prevent material buildup. Use them in dry and dirty environments.
Diamond-tread coatings are excellent for shedding water and debris, and work similarly to rain-tire treads. They prevent belt slippage and hydroplaning in wet environments.
Coatings with ceramic tiles add extra traction to reduce the chance of belt slippage in wet and muddy environments. The tiles also protect the rubber coating from damage during extended use. The higher the ceramic tile coverage, the better the traction and protection they add.
Mount these coatings to your pulley using adhesives, primers, and activators.
To Order—Check the chart to determine the number of strips required to cover the diameter of your pulley, or follow these steps.
1. Multiply your pulley diameter (in inches) by 3.14, then divide by 8.
2. For results with a decimal less than 0.7, round up to the nearest whole number (for example, 7.25 would round up to 8). For results with a decimal 0.7 or above, round up and add 1 (for example, 5.9 would result in a final value of 7). For strips, this is the number you need to order. For rolls, proceed to steps 3-5 below.
To determine how many rolls you need to cover your pulley:
3. Calculate the required strip length. For projection coatings and ribbed coatings, add 2" to the pulley width; for diamond-tread coatings, add 4" to the pulley width.
4. Calculate the number of strips per roll. For projection coatings: divide 129 by the required strip length (see step 1). For ribbed and diamond-tread coatings: divide 252 by the required strip length.
5. Divide the number of strips required (see step 1) by the number of strips per roll (see step 4). The result is the number of rolls of coating you’ll need; be sure to round up.

Attach adhesive-mount coatings—also known as lagging—to conveyor pulleys without removing them from your system, which is how you apply traditional coatings. For optimal bonding strength, apply the primer and mix equal parts adhesive and activator. Apply two layers of the adhesive mixture.
To Order—You’ll need the same amount of adhesive and activator. One can of adhesive and one bottle of activator will cover up to 314" of surface area. To find your pulley’s surface area, multiply your pulley’s diameter by its width.
Determine how many cans of primer you’ll need by multiplying pulley diameter by pulley width (in inches). One can will cover 3,220" of surface area.
Slide these coating strips into metal retainers (sold separately) that you attach to your pulley—they add friction that helps conveyor belts stay on pulleys and are replaceable when they’re worn. Unlike traditional coatings, you don’t need to detach the pulley from your system to apply them. Each strip consists of rubber bonded to a metal backing plate to prevent it from separating from the pulley surface, which can happen to adhesive-mount coatings. When the strips wear out, pull them out and slide in new ones. They’re also known as lagging.
These coating strips have a diamond tread that sheds sand, gravel, grain, and other debris to prevent material buildup and maintain traction on the belt. Use them in dry and dirty environments.
SBR rubber strips protect pulleys from wear and damage, helping them last longer.
Pair tapered strips with non-tapered strips to give your pulley a slightly concave surface, which improves belt tracking by directing the belt back to the pulley’s center if it starts to wander.
Perforated-backing strips bend to fit any diameter pulley 12" and over, so you don’t have to keep strips for different diameter pulleys on hand to replace damaged ones. They’re interchangeable with standard coating strips that are made for a specific pulley diameter.
Bolt or weld retainers onto the surface of your pulley. Single-sided retainers only have lock-down tabs on one side, so use them to mount the first and last strips. Double-sided retainers have lock-down tabs on both sides. Use them on the majority of your pulley’s diameter.
To Order—Determine how many strips and retainers you need to cover your pulley.
1. Divide the pulley’s diameter (in inches) by 2.
2. Multiply the answer by the pulley’s width, and then add 6.
3. Divide the answer from step 2 by 72 and round up. This is the number of strips and double-sided retainers you’ll need.
4. Take the answer from step 3 and divide it by 4, then round up. This is the number of single-sided retainers you’ll need.
For a slightly concave, or crowned, surface, pair tapered strips with non-tapered strips. The number of tapered strips you will need is equal to your pulley’s diameter (in inches). To determine the number of non-tapered strips you’ll need follow these steps:
1. Divide your pulley’s diameter by 2.
2. Subtract 20 from the pulley’s width.
3. Multiply the answer from step 1 by the answer from step 2, and then add 6.
4. Take the answer from step 3, divide it by 72, and then round up. This is the number of non-tapered strips you’ll need.

Weld these coating strips onto pulleys to help them keep a better grip on conveyor belts. They also protect the pulleys from wear, making them last longer. Unlike traditional coatings, there’s no need to remove your pulley from its system to attach them. They have a metal backing plate that ensures a strong bond between the coating strip and pulley, and prevents failures caused by them separating. To eliminate wide gaps between rows, which make them harder to clean, these strips have an interlocking shape. They’re also known as lagging.
Ribbed coating strips trap water and debris, and shed them as the conveyor runs to prevent material buildup. Use them in dry and dirty environments.
Diamond-tread coating strips shed water and debris like rain-tire treads. They prevent belt slippage and hydroplaning, and work well in wet and dry environments.
Coatings with ceramic tiles add extra grip to further reduce the chance of belt slippage, even in wet and muddy environments. The tiles also protect the rubber coating from wear during extended use.
To Order—Determine the number of strips you need to cover your pulley. Divide the pulley diameter (in inches) by 2, and round up. For example, you’ll need nine strips to cover an 18" diameter pulley.
Strip length should be equal to the pulley’s width and 2" longer than the belt’s width.
