Audio Equipment Connectors
Receptacles with an off (Normally Open) circuit position turn equipment on when a device is plugged in.
Receptacles with an on (Normally Closed) circuit position turn equipment off when a device is plugged in.
Receptacles with a shunt divert current from one device to another when a connection is made. In a stereo, the speakers are the default connection to the sound system. When a pair of headphones is plugged into the stereo’s receptacle, the shunt diverts current, and the audio, to the headphones.
