    Outside Micrometers for Thin Materials

Image of Product. Front orientation. Outside Micrometers. Outside Micrometers for Thin Materials.
Avoid ripping and wrinkling paper-thin materials as you measure. The disc-shaped ends distribute pressure over a wide area to prevent denting. Plus, the spindle extends without twisting, so it won't tear delicate parts such as foil.
To find your exact measurements, read the scales on the sleeve and thimble. These micrometers are free of electronic components that could break if dropped or short-circuit if wet. You don't have to replace any batteries, so they're always ready for the job.
Mitutoyo—The go-to for machinists and engineers. Every part is made within a Mitutoyo automated factory and tested in-house in Japan. The spindle glides as you turn the thimble with a weighty, silky-smooth feel.
Ratchet-Stop Thimble—Best for consistent, repeatable measurements. The spindle stops extending the moment it reaches your part, so it won’t overtighten. Hear and feel a satisfying click that confirms you’ve applied the right amount of pressure.

Measure gears so they fit perfectly in your system. The anvil and spindle have flat discs that fit between tight gear teeth, where most micrometers can't reach.

With Analog Display—Watch the display update as the spindle moves for easy-to-read, trustworthy measurements.
Calibration Certificate—Choose these micrometers when precision measurements are required for quality control or by regulation. The certificate is traceable to NIST, so you can be confident your measurements are correct and consistent.

    Digital Outside Micrometers for Gears

Image of Product. Front orientation. Outside Micrometers. Digital Outside Micrometers for Gears.
Quickly read gear measurements to make sure they will fit perfectly in your system. The anvil and spindle have flat discs that squeeze between tight gear teeth, where most micrometers can't reach.
With an LCD display, these micrometers give instant measurements—no need to read scales. Swap between inch and metric or set the position to zero, all with the press of a button. You don't need to reset the zero point since they retain their position when turned off, also known as absolute (ABS) positioning.
Mitutoyo—The go-to for machinists and engineers. Every part is made within a Mitutoyo automated factory and tested in-house in Japan. The spindle glides as you turn the thimble with a weighty, silky-smooth feel.
With SPC Data Output—Send measurements to a computer or data processor to store, analyze, and manage data. You'll need a data cable or SPC wireless transmitter and receiver.
Calibration Certificate—Choose these micrometers when precision measurements are required for quality control or by regulation. The certificate is traceable to NIST, so you can be confident your measurements are correct and consistent.

Reach into bores to measure the precise size and location of grooves. These micrometers have two discs on their measuring spindle to find a groove’s edge. Slide the spindle into your bore, press the discs against the wall and into the groove, and twist the thimble to measure the distance between the two discs. A speeder knob moves the measuring spindle more quickly toward or away from your groove, without turning the thimble repeatedly. When the spindle touches the groove you’re measuring, it will stop tightening, but the speeder knob will continue turning with a clicking sound. The spindle doesn’t rotate, so the contact points won’t spin or slip out of a groove.
