About Files
Files, also known as American-pattern and machinists' files, are used to remove material quickly.
Precision files, also known as Swiss-pattern files, are made to exacting measurements to ensure smoothness and are useful for finishing delicate and intricate parts.

Half-Round Rasps
Use on concave, convex, and flat surfaces. These rasps have sharp individual teeth that quickly remove large amounts of soft, clog-prone materials.
Style A rasps do not include a handle but do have a tang that fits into a handle. Length does not include the tang.
Double Cut—Surface has two sets of diagonal teeth and is often used with heavier pressure than single cut for rapid material removal.
Single Cut—Surface has one set of diagonal teeth and is often used with light pressure to slowly remove material and sharpen tool-cutting surfaces.

Rectangular Rasps
Sharp individual rasp teeth quickly remove large amounts of soft, clog-prone materials better than regular files.
Style B rasps do not include a handle but do have a tang that fits into a handle.
Rapid Cut—Diamond-shaped teeth quickly remove material and produce a fine finish.

Digital Durometer Hardness Testers
Measure the hardness of flat materials, such as plastic, rubber, and laminate. For more information about durometer scales, please see the bottom of About Rubber.
These testers come with a calibration certificate traceable to NIST that states they’ve passed a test for accuracy. A maximum-reading indicator holds the highest reading until reset. Use the USB/RS-232 port for direct connection to your PC.
