Fire-Stop Caulk

Easy to apply and quick to set, this caulk is a popular choice for sealing small openings in fire-resistant walls and floors. It’s often used to line seams or fill gaps around cables or pipes that run between rooms. You can use it alone or with other fire-stop products. This caulk is tested to ASTM and UL standards for stopping the spread of smoke and flames. It resists vibration, so it will flex with movement rather than crack or pull away from surfaces. Apply with a caulk gun or trowel.
Spray-on caulk is used to evenly coat hard-to-reach openings. It’s often used to seal the spaces where fire-rated walls, floors, and ceilings meet.
Acrylic caulk is water-based, which is the most common formula for fire-stop caulk. It’s a good choice for most applications. Expandable caulk is used to seal the area around PVC pipes, cables, and other equipment that can melt or shrink during a fire. When it’s heated, it expands to fill gaps.
Silicone caulk forms a watertight, flexible seal. Use it to seal openings that are exposed to weather, washdowns, or standing water.

Fire-Stop Cement

Seal openings in fire-resistant floors and walls to stop the spread of smoke and flames. Often used to fill gaps around pipes or conduit, this cement forms a rigid, tight-fitting shield. It’s heavier and messier to apply than fire-stop blocks or sheets, but it's an economical choice for covering a large area. You can also paint over this cement once it dries.
This cement comes as a powder—mix in water until you reach the consistency you need. The thicker the cement, the better it will stick to walls; thinner cement dries with a smoother finish on floors.
Cement in a pail is best for small, infrequent jobs. The pail is resealable and has a carrying handle.
Fire-Stop Tape

Smooth this tape over holes, gaps, and seams in fire-rated walls, floors, and ceilings to form a seal. It’s tested to ASTM and UL standards for stopping the spread of smoke and flames. It’s also watertight, so it prevents leaks if you need to extinguish a fire. Designed to resist vibration, this tape flexes with movement rather than cracking or pulling away from surfaces. To apply, cut to size and peel off the liner.

Fire-Stop Pipe Collars

Fill the space between plastic pipes and the fire-rated wall or floor they pass through. These collars are tested to ASTM and UL standards for preventing the spread of smoke and flames. They expand when heated, so they’ll fill any gaps left if your pipe melts or shrinks. Slip a collar over the end of your pipe and press into the opening in the wall or floor. If your pipe runs through a wall, seal both sides.

Fire-Stop Electrical Box Inserts
Seal electrical boxes to maintain fire-resistant walls. These inserts mount inside electrical boxes to block the spread of smoke and flames. When heated, they expand to seal gaps, such as those left by melted wire. They fit common box sizes.
Use gaskets when cable or switches have already been installed. They sit just inside your cover plate.
Use pads before cable is installed. The adhesive side sticks to the back wall of your electrical box. They can be used only with metallic boxes.

Fire-Stop Sheets

Cut these sheets to any size and shape you need to seal large openings in fire-resistant walls and floors. They’re often used to fill the space around pipes, conduit, and ducts. These sheets are tested to ASTM and UL standards for stopping the spread of smoke and flames. Made of steel, they have a firestop coating that expands when it’s heated. If the equipment passing through these panels melts or shrinks during a fire, this coating will fill the gaps.
Use shears to cut these panels to size, then fasten to your surface with No. 10 self-drilling sheet metal screws (not included). Fill any gaps around the sheet with fire-stop caulk (sold separately) for a tight seal. Once they’re installed, you can paint over them without losing fire protection.
Fire-Stop Bags

Stack these bags to fill large gaps in fire-resistant walls and floors. They are reconfigurable, making them useful for applications where cable configurations change frequently. Bags expand when heated to fill gaps left by melted cables.

Fire-Stop Plugs

Squeeze these foam plugs into the ends of pipe or conduit to fill the space around cables. When heated, they expand to fill any gaps left if the cables shrink or melt. They’re tested to ASTM and UL standards for stopping the spread of smoke and flames. Cut holes in these plugs to pass cables through, or use them to block the ends of unused pipe or conduit. Once they’re installed, you can paint them without losing fire protection.
