Flexible Cylinder Hones for Steel and Stainless Steel

With a silicon carbide abrasive, these hones are the best choice for steel and stainless steel. They’re sharp enough to remove material while leaving a cross-hatch patterned finish that retains lubricant. Hones have abrasive-embedded balls on flexible spindles to press against the inside of cylinders. They perform best on steel and stainless steel but are also a good all-around option for other materials. Hones are slightly oversized for maximum contact with surfaces. When your cylinder ID falls between two sizes, order the larger hone. Use them with portable drills, drill presses, and CNC machines. Hones should be rotating when inserted or removed from cylinders. We recommend using them with honing oil to keep the abrasive surface free of debris.
Twisted Shank—Snip the shank to shorten the length of your cylinder hone.
Hex Shank—Required for cylinder IDs of 9" or larger.
Grit—Grit is identified by the color on the tip, except 120-grit hones are unmarked.

    Honing Stones

Control the pressure you apply to surfaces with a turn of the adjustment knob to achieve your desired finish. These hones have spring-loaded arms that push the abrasive stones against cylinder walls. Rigid stones repair cylinders that are out-of-round, tapered, or otherwise misshaped. Use with portable drills, moving the hone up and down to leave a cross-hatch pattern that retains lubricant. The shank flexes to reach around curves or into spaces where you can’t keep the drill parallel to the cylinder. We recommend using hones with honing oil to keep the abrasive free of debris.

    Twisted Shank

Prevent clogs when honing soft metals, such as aluminum. These hones have aluminum-oxide abrasive balls that resist buildup. Mounted on flexible spindles, the balls press against the inside of cylinders. They remove material and leave a cross-hatch patterned finish to retain lubricant. Hones are slightly oversized for maximum contact with surfaces. When your cylinder ID falls between two sizes, order the larger hone. Use with portable drills, drill presses, and CNC machines. Hones should be rotating when inserted or removed from cylinders. We recommend using them with honing oil to help clear debris from the abrasive.
Twisted Shank—Snip the shank to shorten the length of your cylinder hone.
Grit—Grit is identified by the color on the tip, except 120-grit hones are unmarked.

    Rigid Cylinder Hones

Image of Product. Front orientation. Cylinder Hones. Rigid Cylinder Hones.
Fix misshaped cylinder walls, including those that are out-of-round or tapered. These hones have rigid abrasive stones that remove small amounts of material. They’re adjustable, so you can size them to your cylinder in micrometer increments. Clip two stones and two felt cleaning wipers onto the holders. Then, turn the knob to expand until the stones press against the cylinder. Use with portable drills, moving the hone up and down to leave a cross-hatch pattern that retains lubricant. We recommend using these with honing oil to keep the abrasive free of debris.

Shallow dimples collect debris to prevent clogging the sharpening surface. These stones are a good choice for blade edges with defects that require heavy material removal. They also reduce friction and heat to protect delicate blades while you sharpen.

The dimple-free surface sharpens blades evenly every time. Since these stones have the most abrasive, they also remove material more quickly. However, debris can build up rapidly, so you’ll need to wipe them clean more often.
