Locking Pliers
Lock the jaws in a vise-like grip around a workpiece and these pliers stay clamped in place to leave your hands free. Turn the screw to adjust the pressure and squeeze the handles to lock.
Curved-jaw pliers are the most common style and provide a good grip on a variety of shapes.
Flat-jaw pliers are designed to grip flat objects.
V-jaw pliers give you the best grip on round stock, tubing, and pipe.
Combination-jaw pliers have a flat jaw for general purpose gripping and a curved jaw for round material.
Pivoting-jaw pliers have a bottom jaw that automatically adjusts to the shape of your workpiece.

Tight-Clearance Locking Pliers
With long jaws for reach, these pliers clamp and lock around workpieces in hard-to-access areas. Turn the screw to adjust the pressure and squeeze the handles to lock the jaws firmly. These pliers stay clamped in place to leave your hands free. They have combination jaws with a flat area for general purpose gripping and a curved area for round material.
Lever-release pliers open when you press the lever. Quick-release pliers are easier to open with one hand than lever release—push the handles open with your fingers.

Screw-Extracting Locking Pliers
With jaws that lock into position for a good grip, these pliers are designed to remove stripped, rusted, and tamper-resistant screws. They have vertical and horizontal serrations and a tip shaped to firmly grip the outside of screw heads. Their curved jaws create more points of contact with round and irregularly shaped workpieces than other jaw styles, resulting in a strong, tight hold. They can also be used for general purpose gripping. The jaws are spring assisted, so they open automatically when you release the handles. These pliers also have a wire cutter on the jaw.
Quick-release handles make these pliers easier to open with one hand than lever-release pliers. You can push the handles open with your fingers. They have plastic grips for comfort.

Bar-Style Locking Plier Clamps
Slide the upper jaw to adjust the opening size. These clamps hold larger workpieces than other locking plier clamps of similar size. Squeeze the handle to lock the clamp and press the release trigger to open it. Turn the adjusting screw to change the angle of the jaws up to 7° to clamp tapered workpieces.
