Plastic Gears and Gear Racks—14 1/2° Pressure Angle
A former industry standard, 14½° pressure angle gears are often found on older machinery. Made of plastic, they run quieter than metal gears and have good corrosion and chemical resistance. They’re also known as spur gears.
Combine gears with different numbers of teeth to change speed and torque in your assembly. Combine a gear and rack to convert rotary motion into linear motion.
For components to mesh correctly, they must have the same pressure angle and pitch.
Gears with machinable bore have a large hub diameter so you can machine them to fit your shaft.
Machined gear racks may be slightly bowed but will straighten out when installed.

Plastic Miter Gears

Connect two shafts at a right angle without changing shaft speed or torque. Made of plastic, these gears run quieter than metal gears and have good corrosion and chemical resistance.
For two gears to mesh correctly, they must have the same pressure angle, pitch/module, and number of teeth.
Nylon gears are self-lubricating, so they’re often used in food machinery. However, they’re not approved for direct contact with food or chemicals that will come into contact with food.

Plastic Worm Gears

These plastic gears are lighter and quieter than metal gears—pair them with metal worms for lubrication-free operation. Worm gears use screw threads to make large reductions to shaft speed while transmitting motion at a right angle. They transmit motion from worm to gear and cannot be reversed. For gears and worms to mesh correctly, they must have the same pressure angle, pitch/module, number of thread starts, and thread direction.
Speed ratio is the ratio by which output shaft speed is reduced. As speed decreases, torque increases.
Nylon gears are lightweight and stronger than acetal gears.

Plastic Bevel Gears

Reduce speeds where noise, corrosion, and frequent lubrication are a concern. Compared to metal gears, these nylon gears run more quietly, won't rust, and don't need to be lubricated. Because they’re self-lubricating, these bevel gears are commonly used in food machinery. They should not, however, come in direct contact with food or chemicals that will come in contact with food.
A complete set consists of a gear and pinion (sold separately). For a gear and pinion to mesh correctly, they must have the same pressure angle, module, and face width. Plastic pinions can also be mated with metal gears, and plastic gears with metal pinions.
Speed ratio is the ratio by which shaft speed is reduced when transferring motion from pinion to gear. To increase shaft speed, transfer motion from gear to pinion. Changing shaft speed also changes torque: as speed decreases, torque increases.

Plastic Ratcheting Gears

A light duty alternative to metal, these plastic ratcheting gears run quieter than metal gears and have good corrosion and chemical resistance. Used to prevent unwanted motion in spools, clocks, and printers, ratchet gears have sloped teeth that allow motion in one direction and prevent it in the other.
A pawl is required to prevent backward motion.

Sprockets for Food Industry Cut-Resistant Conveyor Belting

Choose these sprockets when you need to expand your Ammeraal Beltech MPB conveyor line or replace its worn sprockets. Made of strong, durable polyamide, they withstand chemicals and a wide range of temperatures. All are FDA compliant for direct contact with food.
Sprockets with eight teeth leave a smaller gap between belt plates then those with ten teeth, so food is less likely to fall through.
Sprockets with ten teeth allow belts to run smoother than those with eight teeth, which prolongs the life of the belts. They can also handle heavier loads. The gaps between the belt plates, however, will be larger than those with eight teeth, so food may fall through.
