    Rotary Shafts

Image of Product. Front orientation. Rotary Shafts.
Pair with gears, sprockets, and bearings to transmit rotary motion. Turned, ground, and polished to tight tolerances, these shafts reduce vibration, evenly distribute loads, and improve accuracy.
Carbon Steel—Strong and easy to machine. These shafts work best in dry environments since moisture will cause steel to rust.
Chrome-Plated Carbon Steel—The chrome plating creates a hard, protective barrier that withstands moisture. However, it can chip or flake under repeated impact or shock loads.
Corrosion-Resistant Nitride-Coated Carbon Steel—Combine the strength of steel with the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. The nitride coating resists moisture, oxidation, and mild chemicals, but not salt water or strong acids and alkalis. Unlike chrome plating, it won't flake or chip.
High-Strength Alloy Steel—Our strongest steel shafts. However, they're more difficult to machine than carbon steel shafts.
Corrosion-Resistant 303 Stainless Steel—Withstand moisture and mild cleaning solutions, such as acetone and ammonia. These shafts are easier to machine than other stainless steel shafts.
Highly Corrosion-Resistant 316 Stainless Steel—More corrosion resistant than 303 and 304 stainless steel shafts. They stand up to salt water and harsh chemicals, such as bleach, chlorine, and phosphoric acid.

    Splined Rotary Shafts

Often used in hydraulic and other high-torque applications, these shafts have evenly spaced teeth to transmit heavy rotational loads. They handle more torque and last longer than keyed shafts since they have multiple contact points. Pair them with splined sleeve bushings (sold separately). Compatible bushings and components slide right along the splines, making these shafts a good choice for frequent disassembly and adjustments.

The large, straight-sided teeth resemble machine keys and transmit more torque than involute-spline teeth. These shafts are fully splined, so you can mount components anywhere along their length.
Carbon Steel—Strong and easy to machine. These shafts work best in dry environments since moisture will cause steel to rust.
Sleeve Bushings—Transmit rotary motion or position loads along a shaft. These bushings also work as couplers—they can join two splined shafts when welded into place.

Handle misalignment and reduce vibration and wear. Curved teeth, similar to those on a gear, make more contact with a bushing than parallel-splined teeth. These shafts are fully splined, so you can mount components anywhere along their length.

Lock gears, sprockets, and bearings in place so they won't slip as these shafts turn. The flat length mates with D-shaped bores for a secure connection while giving set screws an even surface to dig into. Turned, ground, and polished to tight tolerances, these shafts reduce vibration, evenly distribute loads, and improve accuracy.
