Hand-Held Barcode Scanners

Identify and track items tagged with the most common barcodes. These scanners don’t require any software to communicate with your computer. When you press the trigger to scan a barcode, the data appears wherever your cursor is, just like when you type.

All scanners read 1D barcodes, such as UPC, EAN, Code 39, Code 128, and ISBN codes. Those that scan 2D barcodes read QR, Data Matrix, and PDF417 codes. Scanners for GTINs (Global Trade Item Numbers) read codes that are typically embedded in UPC and EAN barcodes.

Laser scanners work well for reading barcodes on rounded surfaces. CCD (charge-coupled device) scanners read barcodes on screens and other shiny surfaces better than laser scanners. They also have fewer moving parts than laser scanners, so they last longer. Image scanners read lower-quality barcodes than laser and CCD scanners. They’re also able to read barcodes on screens.

Scanners with a USB connection send data faster than Bluetooth scanners but require you to be tethered to your computer. Scanners with a Bluetooth connection work wirelessly hundreds of feet away from the computer they’re sending data to.

Scanners that cannot be sold to the listed areas are restricted due to energy efficiency and/or export regulations.

Machine-Mount Barcode Scanners

Automate identifying and tracking tagged items on your production line with minimal setup. These scanners are ready to go right out of the box—they have a built-in lens and lights. Their lens, known as a liquid lens, automatically adjusts to different distances and shapes to capture high-quality images even in low-light settings. Access their web interface to see images in real time—no need to download software. To connect them to your network, you’ll need a cord (sold separately).

Tough enough to handle the demands and speeds of most production lines, these scanners are built to be low maintenance. A rugged, compact case protects them from dust and water. Mount them directly to machines.

They read most common barcodes, even if they're damaged or poorly printed. If your barcode is on a computer or phone screen, these scanners can identify it. These scanners detect 1D barcodes, such as UPC, EAN, Code 39, Code 128, and ISBN. They’ll also scan 2D barcodes, such as QR codes, data matrix, PDF417, and permanently etched DPM markings.

Scanners with ring light provide illumination from all directions, so there are no shadows on non-reflective objects.

Scanners with a wide lens capture a large area, so they work well for barcodes found on large objects, such as pallets. Scanners with a medium lens are a good choice when you need to balance capturing a large area and capturing details. They're good at detecting barcodes on parcel packages. Scanners with a narrow lens focus on a small area with high precision. They can scan barcodes on surfaces as small as a water bottle cap.

Scanners with white light give off clean, crisp, cool tones that are ideal for inspection work. However, the white light will reflect on shiny surfaces. Scanners with red light won’t create a reflection or glare because the red color is absorbed.
