Bearing Retaining Locknuts

With a nylon insert that grips your threaded shaft or spindle without damaging its threads, these locknuts—also called shaft nuts—hold bearings, bushings, gears, and pulleys prone to vibration tightly in place. They come as one piece, so you can easily clamp them onto your shaft or spindle. But, since they aren’t made entirely of metal, they don’t stand up to heat as well as all-metal locknuts. Slots in their sides mean you can tighten and loosen them with a spanner wrench or spanner socket. Their face is also chamfered to help keep the size and weight of your assembly at a minimum. All meet international standards for bearing locknut dimensions.
When choosing your thread spacing, consider the precision of your application. The finer the threads, the more control you have when making adjustments.
All carbon steel locknuts are strong and resist wear, though they don’t stand up to corrosion as well as stainless steel locknuts. Zinc-plated steel locknuts resist rusting from some moisture, but you shouldn’t use them with salt water or chemicals.
303 stainless steel locknuts resist corrosion better than steel locknuts but aren’t as strong. They withstand washdowns and chemicals.

Bearing Retaining Nuts

Often paired with spring lock washers to strengthen their hold, these retaining nuts—also known as shaft nuts—keep vibration from shifting bearings, bushings, pulleys, and gears on your threaded shaft or spindle. They have slotted sides, so you can tighten and loosen them with a spanner wrench or spanner socket. Made of carbon steel, they’re strong and wear resistant.
Use stepped-face retaining nuts with DIN 462 spring lock washers. You can also use them in pairs or with other bearing retaining nuts as jam nuts. For the nut closer to the bearing, position the stepped face towards the bearing. All meet DIN standards for bearing lockout dimensions.
Chamfered-face retaining nuts weigh less and produce less heat than stepped-face nuts. They meet ISO 2982 (formerly DIN 981), an international standard for bearing locknut dimensions. Their sizes correspond to SKF KM series. Use them with DIN 5406 spring lock washers.

Bearing Retaining Jam Nuts

Used in pairs or with another bearing retaining nut, these jam nuts—often called shaft nuts—hold bearings, bushings, pulleys, and gears in place on your threaded shaft or spindle. Threading two nuts tightly against each other makes it harder for vibration to loosen your assembly than if you used only one nut. For the nut closer to the bearing, position the stepped face towards the bearing. These jam nuts have holes on the side, so you can tighten and loosen them with a pin spanner wrench. Made of carbon steel, they’re strong and wear resistant. All meet DIN 1816, an international standard for bearing locknut dimensions.

Plastic Submersible Cord Grips

Able to resist most chemicals and withstand use underwater, these nylon grips are rated IP68 for protection from dusty environments and prolonged submersion. A rubber bushing and O-ring create a tight seal to prevent liquid from entering the connection. All are CE marked and TUV Rheinland certified, which means they meet European safety standards. Grips with UL certifications meet American safety standards, while those with C-UL and CSA certifications meet Canadian safety standards. Some also meet standards for marine vessels classed by DNV-GL.
Grips with metric threads meet IP69 for protection from high-pressure washdowns.

Screw-Down Sure-Grip Plastic Submersible Cord Grips

Tighten the screw-down clamp on these grips for superior pull-out resistance while relieving tension at connection points. Grips are rated IP68 for protection from prolonged submersion and IP69K for protection against high-pressure, high-temperature jets of water. A rubber bushing and O-ring create a tight seal to prevent liquid from entering the connection.

Low-Temperature Brass Submersible Cord Grips

Keep cords from coming loose and seal water out of enclosures in extremely cold labs and storage areas. Thanks to their plastic bushing and rubber O-ring, these grips withstand temperatures as low as -75° F. They’re NEMA and IP rated, so you can safely submerse them under water, though only for short periods of time. They also stand up to dust, weather, washdowns, and oil. Nickel plated, they resist corrosion. All of these grips relieve strain on your cord if it’s pulled, prolonging its life.

Low-Profile Submersible Break-Through Multi-Cord Grips

The face of these grips is flush with the cable-entry point for a seamless appearance. They have a thin, flexible seal that covers the holes until you push a cord through. Grips are rated IP66, IP68, NEMA 4X, and NEMA 12 for protection from continuous submersion, washdowns and oil/coolant splashing.
