Economy Carbide Inserts
Install these carbide inserts into a matching holder. When a cutting edge becomes dull, rotate the insert in the holder to use a sharp edge. Larger nose angles and larger tip radii provide a stronger cutting edge but result in increased vibration and a rougher finish.
Positive-rake inserts have an edge that is less than 90° to sit flat in the holder for improved cutting clearance and a better finish than negative-rake inserts. They have cutting edges on one side.
Negative-rake inserts have a 90° edge and sit at an angle in the holder to provide a strong cutting force for heavy duty applications. They have cutting edges on both sides for twice the life of comparable positive-rake inserts.

Cutoff and Grooving Carbide Inserts



Combine a holder and carbide insert to perform cutoff and grooving tasks on a lathe.
Neutral inserts have a 0° lead angle for cutting solid workpieces.
Right-hand inserts have an 8° lead angle for cutting hollow workpieces such as pipe and tubing.
C2 carbide is abrasion resistant and less likely to chip or crack than C5 carbide when cutting aluminum, brass, and bronze.

Carbide-Tipped External Threading Lathe Tools






The carbide tip brazed onto the ground steel shanks of these tools is more wear resistant than high-speed steel. Right-handed tools cut from right to left, left-handed tools cut from left to right, and neutral tools can cut in either direction.
Right-hand and left-hand threading tools are for working close to the chuck.
C2 carbide tips are abrasion resistant and less likely to chip or crack than C6 carbide when cutting aluminum, brass, and bronze.

Carbide-Tipped External Grooving and Cutoff Lathe Tools




A carbide tip brazed onto a ground steel shank makes these tools more wear resistant than high-speed steel tools. They plunge directly into the workpiece to form grooves and can also be used in cutoff applications.
Choose right-hand tools if you need more clearance on the left side of the tool. Choose left-hand tools if you need more clearance on the right side of the tool.

Carbide-Tipped Turning Lathe Tools
Constructed of a carbide tip brazed onto a ground steel shank, these tools are more wear resistant than high-speed steel tools. Right-handed tools cut from right to left, left-handed tools cut from left to right, and neutral tools can cut in either direction.
Style A tools cut a sharp 90° square shoulder.
Style B tools are suitable for roughing cuts, interrupted cuts, and cuts where a square shoulder is not required.
Style C tools have a square nose for general purpose machining and can also be used to plunge straight into the workpiece like a grooving tool.
Style D tools are for light general purpose machining. Their triangular nose can also be used for grooving and undercutting.
Style F and G tools have an offset head for cutting close to the chuck.
C2 carbide tips are abrasion resistant and less likely to chip or crack than C6 carbide when cutting aluminum, brass, and bronze.

Carbide-Tipped Turning Lathe Tool Sets








Constructed of a carbide tip brazed onto a ground steel shank, these tools are more wear resistant than high-speed steel tools. Right-handed tools cut from right to left, left-handed tools cut from left to right, and neutral tools can cut in either direction.
Style AR and AL tools perform along the length turning, facing, boring, and chamfering. They allow for a sharp 90° square shoulder.
Style BR and BL tools perform along the length turning, facing, boring, and chamfering. They are suitable for roughing cuts, interrupted cuts, and cuts where a square shoulder is not required.
Style C tools perform along the length turning, facing, chamfering, and external grooving.
Style D tools perform along the length turning, facing, boring, chamfering, external grooving, and undercutting.
Style E tools are for external threading.
C2 carbide tips are abrasion resistant and less likely to chip or crack than C6 carbide when cutting aluminum, brass, and bronze.
