    External Retaining Rings

    Secure components on a shaft with our go-to external retaining rings. Shaped in the most common style, these are tapered so the thickest section is opposite their opening for a secure 360-degree hold. Open with retaining ring pliers, pass over the end of a shaft, then release them to spring into a groove.
    Ring ID is measured with the ring uninstalled.
    Beryllium Copper—Nonmagnetic rings that conduct electricity and have good corrosion and wear resistance. Do not use in direct contact with acetylene.

    Side-Mount External Retaining Rings

    When you can't access the ends of a shaft, install these rings anywhere along its length. Also known as E-Style rings, these grip the shaft with three contact points and a wide shoulder. Push into the groove with a side-mount retaining ring tool.
    Ring OD is measured with the ring uninstalled.

    Reinforced Side-Mount External Retaining Rings

    These rings resist vibration, shock, and speed. Standard side-mount rings make their lowest points of contact at the shaft's centerline, while these rings establish contact below it. That difference results in 40% greater RPM limits or more to keep your ring from flying off the shaft. Push into the groove with a side-mount retaining ring tool.
