Wire-Snap Cotter Pins
Quick to install and remove, these pins are good for parts you need to disassemble frequently, such as trailer hitches. A more secure alternative to hairpins, they have a wire retainer that stays fastened with spring-like tension. Also known as safety pins, pinch to open and close.

Zinc-Plated Spring Steel—These pins withstand occasional exposure to moisture. However, since friction from moving parts can wear away the finish, they're not ideal for wet environments. While not nearly as corrosion resistant as stainless steel, they are stronger and won’t deform under stress.

18-8 Stainless Steel—The choice for wet and outdoor environments, these pins resist rusting. They are strong enough to join most components but won't withstand extreme stress and vibration as well as steel.
Long-Life Wire-Snap Cotter Pins
Disassemble components frequently without losing tension in the pin. The coil preserves holding strength, so you can reuse these pins over and over. They also offer more security than hairpins and standard wire-snap pins. Also known as safety pins, pinch firmly to open and close.
