Carbide-Tipped External Grooving and Cutoff Lathe Tools
A carbide tip brazed onto a ground steel shank makes these tools more wear resistant than high-speed steel tools. They plunge directly into the workpiece to form grooves and can also be used in cutoff applications.
Choose right-hand tools if you need more clearance on the left side of the tool. Choose left-hand tools if you need more clearance on the right side of the tool.
C2 carbide tips are abrasion resistant and less likely to chip or crack than C6 carbide when cutting aluminum, brass, and bronze.
C6 carbide tips hold up better than C2 carbide when making cuts in steel.
Micrograin carbide tips outperform C2 and C6 carbide tips when cutting difficult-to-machine metal, such as stainless steel or titanium. They provide a good finish on most materials.
