Danger headers are typically used in extreme conditions to indicate an imminently hazardous situation that, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. Warning headers indicate a moderately hazardous situation that, if not avoided, may result in death or serious injury. Caution headers indicate a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. Notice headers indicate general instructions for safety.

Labels with a Danger, Warning, or Caution header meet OSHA 29 CFR 1910.145 safety color standards for indicating hazards. Labels with a Notice header are not OSHA regulated.
