Screw Thread Dies

Use these dies to create external threads on bolts, studs, and rods. They're shaped for use with a die wrench. Loosen and tighten the die with the included set screw to adjust thread depth. Uncoated high-speed steel dies last longer than carbon steel dies when cutting similar material. Titanium-nitride (TiN) coated high-speed steel dies provide up to twice the tool life of uncoated high-speed steel.

Left-Hand Screw Thread Dies

Cut left-hand external threads on bolts, studs, and rods. These dies are shaped for use with a die wrench. Loosen and tighten the die with the included set screw to adjust thread depth. High-speed steel dies last longer than carbon steel when cutting similar material.

Tap and Die Sets

Use a single set for many sizes of internal and external threads. The taps and dies are for use on most metal and plastic.
Round dies are for cutting threads. Use them with wrenches for round dies. Hex-shaped dies are for thread repair and can be used with conventional wrenches.
Carbon steel taps are for thread repair and occasional tapping.
High-speed steel taps and dies last longer than carbon steel when used on similar material.
Taper-chamfer taps have 7-10 chamfered threads at the tip for cutting into the workpiece. They require less torque than other chamfer types, making them a good choice for starting threads and tapping through holes. However, a longer taper means that they cannot thread as close to the bottom of closed-end holes
Plug-chamfer taps are a versatile choice for most tapping applications. With 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, they require moderate torque and are often used for start-to-finish tapping of through holes and closed-end holes. However, they do not start threads as easily as taper-chamfer taps. When using them to tap closed-end holes, be sure to leave sufficient space at the bottom for chips to accumulate.

Thread-Repairing Flange Nuts

Combine the utility of a thread-cutting die with a flange nut. These nuts repair damaged threads and cut through rust, residue, and weld spatter as you thread them while the flange distributes pressure on the material surface, eliminating the need for a separate washer. They’re made of Class 10 steel, so they’re about 25% stronger than medium-strength steel flange nuts and comparable in strength to Class 10.9 bolts. These nuts have a zinc-flake coated finish, so they resist corrosion better than nuts with a zinc-plated finish. They’re comparable to Magni-coated nuts.
