    Durable Disconnect Switches

    Protected by a steel enclosure, these switches withstand tougher conditions than switches in a plastic housing. Also known as safety switches, they have quick-make/quick-break action to eliminate arcing and prolong switch life. They have a lockout to secure in the off position using a padlock (not included).

    Fuse Holder—Switches with a fuse holder are used where overload protection is needed. When the current exceeds the fuse’s rating, the fuse will blow, interrupting the circuit to prevent the switch from overheating, breaking, or causing a fire. These switches require rejection-style fuse clips when used with UL Class RK1, RK5, or T fuses. Note: Horsepower ratings are based on time-delay fuses installed.
    Safety Interlock—Switches with safety interlock keep the door closed when the switch is on and prevent the switch from turning on when the door is open.
    Viewing Window—Switches with a viewing window let you see the switch position without opening the enclosure.

    Enamel-Coated Steel Housing and Powder-Coated Steel Housing—The enclosure is steel, so it withstands tougher conditions than plastic enclosures.
    Fuse Holder—Use switches with a fuse holder where overload protection is needed. When the current exceeds the rating of the fuse, it blows.     Style A

    With a housing that’s designed to contain an explosion, these switches are safe to use in areas where ignitable concentrations of flammable or combustible gas, dust, or fibers may be present. Use them to cut power and keep it isolated, so equipment won’t accidentally start up during inspection or maintenance.

    If there’s a power outage, flip the toggle for each circuit on these switches to backup power. Each circuit can also be turned off completely. To prevent injury and damage to your generators, they are open transition, meaning the contacts disconnect from one power source before connecting to another. This is also known as break-before-make switching.
    Use them with a portable generator.
    NEMA 1—NEMA 1 switches should be used indoors.
    NEMA 1 with NEMA 3R Power Inlet Box—NEMA 1 switches with a power inlet box create a connection point between the switch and a portable generator. These switches should be used indoors. But their inlet box is rated NEMA 3R, so it can be mounted on the outside of an exterior wall.
    NEMA 3R—NEMA 3R switches can be used outdoors since they seal out rain, snow, and sleet.
    Key Lock—Switches with a key lock prevent unauthorized changes to the switch.
