Dowel Pins

Use dowel pins as pivots, hinges, shafts, jigs, and fixtures to locate or hold parts. For a tight fit, your hole should be equal to or slightly smaller than the diameter shown. Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.
Pins with a material certificate provide a traceable lot number and test report.
Steel pins are the strongest dowel pins. Steel pins are precision ground except for 1/32" diameter pins. Stainless steel pins are more corrosion resistant than steel pins. Pins that are passivated offer added protection against corrosion and oxidation. Stainless steel pins are precision ground except for 1/64" diameter pins. 18-8 stainless steel pins offer a balance of strength and corrosion resistance. They may be mildly magnetic. 416 stainless steel pins are more wear resistant than other stainless pins, but not as corrosion resistant. They are magnetic.
Some pins meet material and dimensional standards set by ASME, Mil. Spec., DIN, or ISO.

Pull-Out Dowel Pins

One end of these pins is tapped, and the other is chamfered for easy insertion. To remove, thread a screw or tool into the tapped hole, then pull the pin out. Because they aren't vented, they work best in through holes. Use them as pivots, hinges, shafts, jigs, and fixtures to locate or hold parts. Pins are precision ground for accurate alignment. Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.
Pins that meet ASME B18.8.2 specifications conform to ASME standards for material and dimensions.
Steel pins have good strength. 18-8 stainless steel pins offer a balance of strength and corrosion resistance. They may be mildly magnetic.

Use with internally threaded dowel pins. A complete tool requires a puller handle and a tip that fits your pin. You’ll also need a socket head cap screw that can thread into the pin. To use, thread a tip into the puller handle and fit the other end of the tip over the screw. Slide the weight along the handle to push or pull.
Flat-Vent Pull-Out Dowel Pins

The flat side of these pins relieves trapped air, making them easier to insert and remove from blind holes. One end is tapped and the other is chamfered for easy insertion. To remove, thread a screw or tool into the tapped hole, then pull them out. Use them as pivots, hinges, shafts, jigs, and fixtures to locate or hold parts. Pins are precision ground for accurate alignment. Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.

Ejector Pins

Also known as knockout and forged pins, use these pins to push parts out of molds. Pins are precision-ground to tight tolerances and hardened for strength and wear resistance. Machining is not recommended.

Vibration-Resistant Slotted Spring Pins

Interlocking teeth help these pins resist sliding when exposed to vibration. Also known as roll, tension, split, and expansion pins, they have a slot that presses closed when the pins are inserted so they don't flex after installation. Use them for fastening, pivoting, and holding.
Squeeze pins closed and install them in a hole. Tension holds them tight against the hole wall. The ends are chamfered to aid insertion.
Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.
