7/8" Dowel Pins | McMaster-Carr

Precisely align machine parts and prevent movement during assembly. These dowel pins are machined to tight tolerances and have a uniform diameter for a snug fit. They can also be used as a pivot, shaft, or hinge to join moving components. Since dowel pins can be hard to remove, they are best suited for permanent fixtures that don't require frequent adjustments or disassembly.

Corrosion-Resistant Stainless Steel About Corrosion-Resistant Stainless Steel

18-8 Stainless Steel—The choice for wet and outdoor environments. In addition to resisting rust, these pins also withstand mild chemicals such as cleaners and degreasers. They are strong enough to join most components but won't withstand extreme stress and vibration as well as steel.

High-Strength Machinable 416 Stainless Steel—These pins hold their shape under stress and friction from moving parts. In addition to being the strongest stainless steel alloy, 416 is also the most machinable, so you can shape these pins to fit your hole. However, they are the least corrosion-resistant stainless steel option.

Material Certificate—Pins include a report with a traceable lot number and a description of their chemical, physical, and mechanical properties.

Clevis Pins

The most commonly used clevis pins—just slide a cotter pin into the hole to secure parts. These pins have a flat, low-profile head to fit in tight spaces. They're less likely to get in the way than pins with a loop grip or T-handle but aren’t as easy to grab if you want to remove them frequently. Add your own cotter pin, or choose a clevis pin that includes a reusable hairpin cotter.

Clevis Pins with Retaining Ring Groove

Made for cramped assemblies under constant vibration. These pins come with a ring that snaps into a groove near one end, so they can’t slide out or shake loose. The ring also takes up less space than a cotter pin.

These pins require retaining ring pliers to insert and remove the included ring.

Tethered Loop-Grip Clevis Pins

Lock and release components again and again without losing your cotter or linch pin. These clevis pins have a lanyard or chain that keeps your securing pin attached. Ejector Sleeves

Use these sleeves with mold pins to form holes, bosses, and other features in parts, and then push the parts out of the mold. Made from H13 tool steel, these sleeves are strong, hard, and resist wear. They've been surface hardened with a process called nitriding, which adds even more strength and wear resistance. They’re precision ground to tight tolerances. Machining is not recommended.

Clevis Pins with Locking Retainer

Secure and release these heavy duty pins with one hand. Swing the welded solid steel retainer closed, and it locks onto the pin until you press the lever to open. Unlike other clevis pins, you don’t have to reach around to insert a cotter pin or worry about it falling out. These are often used for towing since they make it easy to hitch and unhitch your equipment.
