Carbide Drill Bits

These jobbers'-length bits have the rigidity and length required for most applications. Made of solid carbide for the highest accuracy and longest tool life, they are harder, stronger, and more wear resistant than high-speed steel, cobalt steel, and carbide-tipped bits. They retain a sharp, hard edge at high temperatures for the best performance on hard and abrasive material. The four-facet point keeps the bit centered without a pilot hole. These bits require rigid toolholding to prevent breakage and should not be used in hand-held drilling applications.
Titanium-nitride (TiN) coated drill bits last longer and can drill at higher speeds than uncoated drill bits.

Short-Length Carbide Drill Bits

Also known as screw-machine and stub-length bits, these provide maximum rigidity for drilling straighter holes than jobbers’-length drill bits. Made of solid carbide for the highest accuracy and longest tool life, they are harder, stronger, and more wear resistant than high-speed steel, cobalt steel, and carbide-tipped bits. They retain a sharp, hard edge at high temperatures for the best performance on hard and abrasive material. These bits require rigid toolholding to prevent breakage and should not be used in hand-held drilling applications. They have either a four-facet or split point to keep the bit centered without a pilot hole.
Titanium-nitride (TiN) coated drill bits last longer and can drill at higher speeds than uncoated drill bits.
Titanium-aluminum-nitride (TiAlN) coated drill bits are the most wear and temperature resistant for the longest life and highest drilling speeds.

Carbide Drill Bits for Hardened Steel

Harder, stronger, and more wear resistant than carbide-tipped steel, solid-carbide bits maintain their sharp edges longer. They require rigid toolholding to prevent breakage and should not be used in hand-held drilling applications. The straight flutes withstand the heavy pressure necessary to penetrate hard steel. A four-facet or split point keeps the bit centered without a pilot hole. These bits are short length, also known as screw machine or stub length, which provides maximum rigidity for drilling straighter holes than jobbers'-length drill bits.

Drill Bits for Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass, and Graphite

These jobbers'-length bits have the rigidity and length required for most applications. They are designed to make clean holes in abrasive material. Their point keeps the bit centered without a pilot hole.
Uncoated drill bits have three drill points that make clean holes in fiber-reinforced composites without fraying or delaminating the material.
Diamond-coated drill bits are highly wear resistant for drilling in abrasive material. They last longer than uncoated bits.

Carbide Hole-Starting Drill Bits

Harder, stronger, and more wear resistant than cobalt steel, solid-carbide bits maintain their sharp edges longer. They require rigid toolholding to prevent breakage and should not be used in hand-held drilling applications. The short flute and length keep these bits straight for accurate placement when starting holes that will be drilled deeper with a longer bit. Also known as spotting drill bits.
Bits with a 90° point angle are for centering and chamfering holes that will be followed by a smaller drill bit size.
Bits with a 120° point angle are for starting a hole that will be followed by a drill bit with a point angle from 90° to 118°.
Bits with a 140° point angle are for starting a hole that will be followed by a drill bit with a point angle from 118° to 135°.

Carbide Drill/Mill End Mills

Made of solid carbide, these end mills are harder, stronger, and more wear resistant than cobalt steel for the longest life and best finish on hard material. Their extreme hardness means they are brittle, so a highly rigid setup, such as a CNC machine, is necessary to prevent the end mill from breaking. A 90° pointed tip allows them to be used for drilling as well as for slotting, profiling, and chamfering cuts. All are center cutting, allowing plunge cuts into a surface.
End mills with four flutes provide a finer finish and operate with less vibration when run at high speeds.
Use uncoated end mills for general purpose milling and short production runs.
