1 15/16" Long Drill Bits

Drill and tap holes in a range of diameters. With a drill bit point to drive into the workpiece, these tools can drill and tap holes in a single step. They also save you time when changing from tool to tool. The grooved shank snaps directly to drills, power screwdrivers, and other tools that accept a 1/4" hex shank. However, they’re not rated for impact drivers. They’re made of high-speed steel and are for use on most metal and plastic.

Their spiral flutes keep chips clear by drawing them back toward the tap and out of the hole. Recommended for use in through holes, all have a plug chamfer with 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, so they’re suitable for start-to-finish tapping.

Cobalt Steel Drill Bits

Tough and wear resistant, cobalt steel bits last at least twice as long as high-speed steel. They can also run up to 25% faster at higher temperatures without being damaged on hard materials, such as nickel.

Short Length—The most rigid bits for drilling the straightest holes.

Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coated—Drill at higher speeds and last longer than uncoated and oxide-coated bits, especially on tough materials like hardened steel and nickel.

Uncoated High-Speed Steel Tap—Uncoated high-speed steel taps have a longer tool life than carbon steel. They are strong enough for most jobs but don’t last as long as other high-speed steel taps. Use them for small-scale jobs.

Plug Chamfer—Plug-chamfer taps are a versatile choice for most tapping applications. With 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, they require moderate torque and are often used for start-to-finish tapping of through holes and closed-end holes. However, they do not start threads as easily as taper chamfers. When using them to tap closed-end holes, be sure to leave sufficient space at the bottom for chips to accumulate.

Black-Oxide High-Speed Steel Drill Bit—Black-oxide high-speed steel drill bits have a longer tool life than carbon steel. They cut with less friction than uncoated drill bits.

Uncoated High-Speed Steel Drill Bit—Uncoated high-speed steel drill bits have a longer tool life than carbon steel. They are strong enough for most jobs but don’t last as long as other high-speed steel drill bits. Use them for small-scale jobs.

Chip-Clearing Tap and Drill Bit Sets for Through Holes

Also known as gun taps, the taps in these sets have spiral-point flutes that push chips ahead of the tap and out of through holes. Because they don't need to be reversed to prevent buildup, they produce threads more efficiently than standard taps and are suitable for production work. The hardest and most wear-resistant bits, these deliver coolant to reduce heat and evacuate chips. They are designed for CNC machines that supply coolant through the spindle rather than an external source, such as a hose and nozzle. Coolant flows directly from holes in the bit's tip onto the drilling surface. This speeds up cuts and leads to excellent performance in deep holes and tough materials such as stainless steel and titanium.

Maintenance Length—Shorter than jobbers' length, these bits are more rigid for less wobble when drilling hard material. Also known as mechanics’ bits.

Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN) Coated—No drill bits last longer. These are the best for high-speed, high-temperature drilling of very hard and abrasive materials, including titanium and fiberglass.
