    Tap and Drill Bit Sets

Image of Product. Front orientation. Tap and Drill Bit Sets. Tap and Drill Bit Sets, Metal Case.

    Metal Case

Drill and tap a variety of hole sizes. These taps and drill bits are for use on metal and plastic.
Uncoated Carbon Steel Tap—Uncoated carbon steel taps are for thread repair and occasional tapping.
Uncoated High-Speed Steel Tap—Uncoated high-speed steel taps have a longer tool life than carbon steel. They are strong enough for most jobs but don’t last as long as other high-speed steel taps. Use them for small-scale jobs.
Taper Chamfer—Taper-chamfer taps have 7-10 chamfered threads at the tip for cutting into the workpiece. They require less torque than other chamfer types, making them a good choice for starting threads and tapping through holes. However, a longer taper means that they cannot thread as close to the bottom of closed-end holes.
Plug Chamfer—Plug-chamfer taps are a versatile choice for most tapping applications. With 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, they require moderate torque and are often used for start-to-finish tapping of through holes and closed-end holes. However, they do not start threads as easily as taper chamfers. When using them to tap closed-end holes, be sure to leave sufficient space at the bottom for chips to accumulate.
Bottoming Chamfer—Bottoming-chamfer taps cut into the workpiece with just 1-2 chamfered threads. This short chamfer lets them thread holes closer to the bottom than other taps, but they require more torque to start threads.
Black-Oxide High-Speed Steel Drill Bit—Black-oxide high-speed steel drill bits have a longer tool life than carbon steel. They cut with less friction than uncoated drill bits.

    Hex-Bit Tap Sets

The taps in these sets have the same hex shank as screwdriver bits. Snap them into the included driver to thread a range of hole sizes. Then switch to a screwdriver bit to install the fastener. Taps have straight flutes that are good for most jobs.
    High-Speed Steel—Multiple Thread Size Sets
Image of Product. Front orientation. Taps. For Threading Fastener Threads, For Fastener Threads, Bit, Right-Hand Thread, Sold as Sets.
The most versatile taps resist heat and wear to stay sharp. They’re good for most metals and plastic. These sets include multiple sizes of plug chamfer taps for through holes and blind holes.
Uncoated—The economical choice, these won't last as long as coated taps.

Quick-Change Hex Shank Drill Taps for Drills and Screwdrivers

Image of Product. Front orientation. Drill Taps. Quick-Change Hex Shank Drill Taps for Drills and Screwdrivers.
Save time when you need to change drill taps frequently. The grooved shank snaps directly into drills, power screwdrivers, and other tools that accept a 1/4" hex shank. However, they’re not rated for impact drivers. With a drill bit point to drive into the workpiece, these taps can drill and tap holes in a single step. They’re made of high-speed steel and are for use on most metal and plastic.
Their spiral flutes keep chips clear by drawing them back toward the tap and out of the hole. All have a plug chamfer with 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, so they’re suitable for start-to-finish tapping.
Uncoated High-Speed Steel—Uncoated taps are strong enough for most tapping jobs but have the shortest tool life.
