Chip-Clearing Carbide Drill Bits
The parabolic spiral flutes lift chips out of the hole, reducing clogging and improving coolant flow. For the highest accuracy and longest tool life, these solid-carbide bits are harder, stronger, and more wear resistant than high-speed steel, cobalt steel, and carbide-tipped bits. They retain a sharp, hard edge at high temperatures for the best performance on hard and abrasive material. These bits require rigid toolholding to prevent breakage and should not be used in hand-held drilling. All are jobbers’ length so they have the rigidity and length required for most applications.
Titanium-nitride (TiN) coated drill bits last longer and can drill at higher speeds than uncoated drill bits.

Nonsparking Drill Bits
Drill safely in flammable environments. Made of Factory Mutual (FM) approved beryllium copper, these bits won’t create sparks that could ignite if they made contact with combustible vapors or residues. These drill bits help you meet OSHA requirements in areas such as mines, refineries, and chemical plants where flammable materials are present.
Do not use these bits in direct contact with acetylene. Dust from beryllium copper can be toxic, so don't grind or sharpen them.

Tap and Drill Bit Sets
Drill and tap a variety of hole sizes. These taps and drill bits are for use on metal and plastic.
High-speed steel taps and drill bits have a longer tool life than carbon steel. Uncoated high-speed steel taps and drill bits are strong enough for most jobs but don’t last as long as other high-speed steel taps and drill bits. Use them for small-scale jobs. Titanium-nitride (TiN) coated taps resist heat and wear better than uncoated taps, letting them last up to twice as long. Titanium-nitride (TiN) coated drill bits last longer and can drill at higher speeds than uncoated and oxide-coated drill bits. Black-oxide coated and black-and-gold-oxide coated taps and drill bits cut with less friction than uncoated taps and drill bits.
Cobalt steel taps and drill bits have higher strength and wear resistance than carbon steel and high-speed steel taps and drill bits.
Plug-chamfer taps are a versatile choice for most tapping applications. With 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, they require moderate torque and are often used for start-to-finish tapping of through holes and closed-end holes. However, they do not start threads as easily as taper chamfers. When using them to tap closed-end holes, be sure to leave sufficient space at the bottom for chips to accumulate.

Chip-Clearing Tap and Drill Bit Sets for Through-Holes
Also known as gun taps, the taps in these sets have spiral-point flutes that push chips ahead of the tap and out of through holes. Because they don't need to be reversed to prevent buildup, they produce threads more efficiently than standard taps and are suitable for production work. Taps have a square shank for compatibility with tap wrenches and tap holders for drill presses and milling machines. With a plug chamfer, they have 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, so they're suitable for start-to-finish tapping. All taps and drill bits are made of high-speed steel for use on most metal and plastic.
