    About Magnets
    industrial info icon

Choose a magnet with the right strength, material, and temperature resistance for your application.

    Hardwire Electromagnets

Position the face of these magnets in direct contact with a flat metal surface and turn on the power to create a magnetic hold. Magnets have wire leads that connect to a DC electromagnet power supply (sold separately). Holding power is not adjustable. When turned off, the magnet will still have some residual magnetism.
Warning: Maximum pull ratings are based on direct contact with rust-free and unpainted iron plate. Variations in material condition will significantly reduce these ratings. Do not use for lifting over people.

Spring-Loaded Release—Magnets with spring-loaded release have a pin that pops up to separate the object and magnet when the power is turned off.

    Plug-In Electromagnets

Position the face of these magnets in direct contact with a flat metal surface and plug in to create a magnetic hold. The plug contains a transformer that converts power from AC to DC, so no additional wiring or power source is needed. Holding power is not adjustable. When turned off, the magnet will still have some residual magnetism.
Warning: Maximum pull ratings are based on direct contact with rust-free and unpainted iron plate. Variations in material condition will significantly reduce these ratings. Do not use for lifting over people.

    Hardwire Electromagnets with Parallel Poles

Parallel poles create a better magnetic hold on thinly painted, plated, or coated flat metal surfaces than other magnets. A terminal block on the magnet connects to a DC electromagnet power supply (sold separately). Holding power is not adjustable. When turned off, the magnet will still have some residual magnetism.
Warning: Maximum pull ratings are based on direct contact with rust-free and unpainted iron plate. Variations in material condition will significantly reduce these ratings. Do not use for lifting over people.

    Ferrite Cores

Often used as inductors and transformers in electrical circuits, these cores generate a magnetic hold when magnet wire (sold separately) is wrapped over them and energized. Remove the electric current and the cores lose their magnetism.

    Switch-Off Hand-Held Lifting Magnets

Image of Product. Front orientation. Lifting Magnets. Switch-Off Hand-Held Lifting Magnets, Style E.

    Style E

For heavy loads, these lifters have a stronger magnet than pull-release lifters and a lock to prevent accidental drops. To switch the magnet on and off, turn a handle or push a button. All lifters have a groove for grabbing round materials, such as pipe, in addition to flat materials.
Warning: Never use to lift people or items over people.
Push Button—Use push-button lifting magnets one-handed, smoothly switching between lifting and dropping materials without changing your grip. To keep your hand safely away from hot or sharp objects, the buttons on these magnets are on the top of the handle. Since these lifting magnets are battery powered, they’re quicker to turn on and off than lifters with an on/off handle. If the battery dies, the magnet stays on, keeping heavy loads secure.

    Battery-Powered Lifting Magnets

Image of Product. Front orientation. Lifting Magnets. Battery-Powered Lifting Magnets.
Keep a safe distance from heavy loads—these lifters automatically engage when set down, so you don’t have to secure the magnet to the load yourself. When these lifting magnets sense they’ve been set down again, they’ll automatically release the load. Alternatively, use the push buttons to manually turn the magnet on and off. As a fail-safe, the magnet stays engaged even if the battery dies, preventing your load from dropping. Pair these lifters with a crane or hoist. They’re often used to move large metal sheets and pipes but can also be used to position loads when grinding or fixturing metal parts together.
You can adjust the magnet’s strength to protect thin materials from damage. Fine-tuning the strength is also useful for lifting just one sheet off a stack at a time.
Warning: Never use to lift people or items over people.
Remote Control—Lifters with a remote control give you a way to manually turn the magnet on or off from a distance.

High-Speed AC to DC Electromagnet Transformers

Image of Product. Front orientation. Power Supplies. High-Speed AC to DC Electromagnet Transformers.
Suitable for high-speed automated applications, these transformers reverse the magnetic current and release your electromagnet's hold faster than other electromagnet transformers. Turn off the transformer and the magnetic current reverses automatically for release. The transformer's power output wattage should be equal to or greater than the watts of your electromagnet. All are rated NEMA 12 for protection from oil/coolant dripping. Also known as rectifiers.
Cannot Be Sold To—Transformers cannot be sold to the regions listed due to local energy efficiency requirements.

    Plug-In Magnetic Yokes

Image of Product. Front orientation. Magnetic Yokes. Plug-In Magnetic Yokes.
Find welding defects and other flaws in magnetic materials. These yokes create a magnetic field that draws magnetic powder (not included) to imperfections, making them easy to spot. All operate on AC power, which creates a small magnetic field ideal for detecting flaws along the surface of materials. Powered by standard electrical outlets, these yokes have a reliable and consistent power source.
Attach an LED light to your yoke to brightly illuminate inspection areas. They’re powered by the yoke’s magnetic field, so they don’t require batteries.
Calibrate your yoke before each use with a test weight to ensure accurate test results.
AC/DC Switch—Yokes with an AC/DC switch can also operate on DC power. DC power generates a deeper magnetic field than AC power to find defects underneath surfaces, such as internal tears and cracks.
6 lb.—6-lb. yokes are lightweight and fit comfortably in your hand to reduce fatigue over extended use.
