    Ball Detent Socket Retainer—Adapters with ball detent, the standard retainer style, have a spring-loaded ball that holds the socket in place, allowing you to slide it on and off quickly.
    Pin Socket Retainer—Adapters with a pin style retainer provide a more secure hold than ball detent style because you have to depress the pin to attach or remove the socket. Also called positive locking.
