About Brightness and Light Appearance

Round Bay Lights

Brighten large, open areas, such as warehouses and manufacturing spaces. Use them to replace old high-intensity discharge (HID) lights—they’ll hang from the same chain. IP rated and UL listed for wet locations, these lights are sealed against washdowns. They’ll also keep out dust. The lens is made of polycarbonate to resist impact. These lights are also known as UFO lights.

Lights rated IP65 are protected against low-pressure washdowns. Styles B, C, D, and E last longer when used at high temperatures than Style A, thanks to larger heat sinks and thermally protected drivers. Each light has exactly the same light appearance, so they’ll look the same if you’re using multiple. Styles B, C, and D can be threaded onto a conduit to create and rigid mount. Add a motion sensor (sold separately) so your light only turns on when there’s movement, saving energy.

High-Temperature Linear Bay Lights

Rated for over a decade of use well above 100° F, these linear bay lights long outlast standard facility lights in high heat. They’re often installed in warehouses located in sweltering climates and in fiery manufacturing facilities, such as steel mills.

Style A lights have outer LED modules that can be rotated to aim some amount of light upwards. This creates uplighting, which reduces glare and eye strain. These lights are rated to resist humidity and impact. Hang them from your ceiling using suspension hardware or thread them onto 3/4″ NPT conduit. Add motion sensors for them to turn on automatically. A remote control is required to adjust the default motion sensor settings.

LED Light Bulbs for High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Lights

Mogul

Replace high-intensity discharge (HID) lights with the longer-lasting, energy-efficient LEDs. Brightness is measured in lumens; the higher the lumens, the brighter the bulb. LED lights are perceived as brighter at night than high-intensity discharge light technologies, so they require fewer lumens to provide the same brightness. Match your old light’s wattage to find the right LED bulb. A bulb’s estimated yearly cost is based on 3 hours of usage per day at $0.11 per kWh.

Ballast bypass bulbs eliminate the need for a ballast, so the socket must be wired directly to the power source.
