Building Wire
- Use for buildings
- Stranded Wire: Flexible
Solid Wire: Bend and Stay - Temperature Range:
Wire with Nylon Outer Insulation: -10° to 190° F
Wire with Polyethylene Outer Insulation: -40° to 190° F
Install this copper wire in conduit and cable trays in commercial and industrial buildings. It's also known as branch circuit wire. The outer jacket is designed to be installed without applying pulling lubricant.
Stranded wire is flexible, so it’s pliable enough to be pulled around corners. Solid wire bends and stays in the position that you bend it. It’s easier to terminate than stranded wire.
Wire with a nylon outer insulation resists oil and water. Wire with a polyethylene outer insulation resists abrasion and chemicals. It’s more flexible than nylon insulated wire.
TFFN wire is also known as fixture wire. It’s for use in dry locations. XHHW-2 wire is for dry and wet locations where wire may be exposed to dripping or splashing liquid. THHN wire can be used in dry or damp locations where wire is exposed to condensation or moisture, such as a basement. THWN and THWN-2 wire can be used in both wet and dry environments.
Flame rated VW-1 wire meets requirements for preventing the spread of flames based on a timed test with vertically suspended material.

Abrasion-Resistant Wire
Run power over rough surfaces—this wire has thick insulation that stands up to wear and tear. It’s flame rated, which means it meets requirements for preventing the spread of fire. Also known as hook-up wire.
Wire with silicone rubber insulation is the most flexible wire we offer. It bends easily around tight turns without cracking.
Wire with braided aramid fiber outer and silicone rubber inner insulation is best for your most rugged applications, such as wiring inside a motor. Its outer layer protects the wire if it’s cut or struck. Meanwhile, its inner layer makes it flexible enough to bend in tight spots. It’s also known as silicone rubber motor lead (SRML) wire.

MC, THHN: PVC Plastic
MC, XHHW-2: Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE)
Also known as metal clad (MC) cable, this cable has metal armor that acts as conduit to protect the building wires. It's often used along the exterior of walls to carry power to outlet boxes. It has a ground wire that is not counted in the number of wires.
Hazardous location environmental ratings indicate whether manufacturers have included safety features in products to facilitate their safe use in a hazardous environment. Before selecting a product for a hazardous location, ensure it is rated for your environment.
Cable with XHHW-2 wire has a PVC outer jacket over the aluminum armor. You can use it in wet environments where liquid might drip and splash on it. It can also be used for direct burial without a conduit.
