About Paint and Ink Markers
Paint markers work well even on dirty, rusty, wet, and oily surfaces. They leave textured marks you can feel with your hand.
Ink markers work best on a clean, dry surface. Marks dry faster than paint and are smooth to the touch.
Both paint and ink markers are permanent.

Metal-Detectable Ink Pens
Commonly used in food processing facilities, these pens are made of a plastic that can be detected with a metal-sensing device.
Metal- and X-Ray Detectable Any-Angle Ink Pens
Write at any angle in food-, pharmaceutical-, and cosmetics-processing plants—these pens contain metal and chemical additives that set off metal detectors and show up on X-rays if they fall into your line. Bright blue in color, they’re easy to find and retrieve. They help you comply with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs to make sure contaminated food doesn’t leave your plant. They’re also FDA compliant for direct contact with food.
These pens have pressurized ink, so you can write at any angle, even upside down. They also work on wet, greasy, and powdery surfaces, as well as in extremely hot and cold environments.

Food Industry Ink Markers
Mark storage containers, processing equipment, and other surfaces in your food plant without risking contamination. These markers work best on clean, dry surfaces. The wider a marker’s stroke width, the larger and bolder its markings will be.
FDA-compliant markers have a plastic body or cap that's approved for direct contact with food. To comply with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs, they contain metal and chemical additives, so they’ll be picked up by metal detectors or X-ray machines if they fall in your line. Markers with a retractable tip don’t have a cap, so they have one fewer piece that could fall into food.
NSF-registered markers are safe for use on containers or equipment that make direct contact with food. The ink from these markers withstands high-temperature sterilizations processes, so your markings won't wash off. They cannot be sold to the listed areas due to local product labeling requirements.

Metal-Detectable Highlighters
Commonly used in food processing facilities, these highlighters are made of a plastic that can be detected with a metal-sensing device. They make fluorescent marks that draw attention to text and won’t bleed through paper.

Metal- and X-Ray-Detectable Stylus Pens
For touchscreen devices near food lines, these pens write without scratching or smudging your screen and have additives to trigger metal detectors and X-rays if dropped in your batch. These additives help you comply with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs for food safety. And because these pens are blue, they’re easy to spot and retrieve. They come as one piece, so there are no loose parts that could fall into your line or spaces where bacteria could grow. FDA compliant, they’re also safe to touch food.
The pointed tip on these pens is more precise than a fingertip. However, since they’re not conductive, these pens won’t work on touch screens that require electricity from a finger.
