    Spur Gear Stock

    Metal Spur Gear Racks

    Ideal for heavy duty applications, these racks match with spur gears to convert rotary motion to linear motion.
    For components to mesh correctly, they must have the same pressure angle and pitch/module.
    20° Pressure Angle—The current industry standard, these 20° pressure angle gear racks have thicker, stronger teeth than 14½° pressure angle gear racks.
    14 1/2° Pressure Angle—A former industry standard, 14½° pressure angle gear racks are often found in older machinery.
    Steel—Steel gear racks have hard, strong, and wear-resistant teeth, although they will rust when exposed to moisture and corrosive chemicals.
    Stainless Steel—Stainless steel gear racks resist rust in damp and wet environments, so they're commonly used in food-processing plants and other areas with frequent cleaning.
    Brass—Brass gear racks are easy to machine, so you can add your own mounting holes and make other alterations. They won't rust when exposed to water.
    Hardened—Gears racks with hardened teeth have better wear resistance than racks with teeth that are not hardened.
    Tooth Spacers—Tooth spacers work with our metric gear racks to take the measuring and guesswork out of installing two racks end-to-end, so your gear rolls smoothly from one rack to the next. With the first rack fastened in place, roughly position the second rack. Place the teeth of the spacer into the teeth of the gear racks like a puzzle piece, and then adjust the second rack until all of the teeth fit together cleanly. Not for use with inch size gear racks.

    Worm gears use screw threads to make large reductions to shaft speed while transmitting motion at a right angle. They transmit motion from worm to gear and cannot be reversed. For gears and worms to mesh correctly, they must have the same pressure angle, pitch/module, number of thread starts, and thread direction. These worms are compatible with plastic worm gears.

    4140 Alloy Steel—4140 alloy steel worms are already mounted on a shaft, so they’re ready to use with no machining required. The threads are ground into the shaft for higher precision than rolled threads, and hardened for additional durability and precision.
