    Separately

    Worm gears use screw threads to make large reductions to shaft speed while transmitting motion at a right angle. They transmit motion from worm to gear and cannot be reversed. For gears and worms to mesh correctly, they must have the same pressure angle, pitch/module, number of thread starts, and thread direction. These worms are compatible with plastic worm gears.

    Bronze—Bronze gears have low friction and dissipate heat better than cast iron gears to provide a long service life for both the gear and the worm. They’re also more corrosion resistant than cast iron gears.
    Speed Ratio—Speed ratio is the ratio by which output shaft speed is reduced. As speed decreases, torque increases.

    Idler Sprockets

    Maintain constant tension on your roller chain to reduce wear and vibration. These sprockets press against the chain to take up slack and rotate freely on bearings to keep the chain moving smoothly. They’re often paired with roller chain tensioners.
    For Single Strand
    Sleeve Bearing—With no moving parts, sleeve bearings are best for dirty environments. They generate more friction than ball bearings, making them less suitable for high-speed applications. Made of porous bronze embedded with oil, all are self-lubricating.
    Needle-Roller Bearing—These bearings rotate smoothly under your heaviest loads.
    Steel—Steel is strong, but best for dry environments since moisture will cause it to rust.
    Wear-Resistant Steel with Hardened Teeth—These sprockets have teeth that are hardened from the tip to the base so they withstand chain contact and wear evenly. That means fewer broken teeth and a longer lifespan than sprockets with unhardened or tip-hardened teeth. Steel is best for dry environments since moisture will cause it to rust.

    Plug-in shafts (sold separately) convert output drives from female to male. Shafts for two outputs are long enough to extend from both sides of the speed reducer.

    Sanitary Right-Angle Speed Reducers

    Cut shaft speed and increase torque while transmitting motion at a 90° angle in food, pharmaceutical, and other sanitary environments. Made of stainless steel, these reducers won’t corrode from frequent washdowns with harsh cleaners and sanitizers. All have a rounded design and polished surfaces, so there are no crevices where bacteria can grow, reducing the chance of a foodborne illness. Double input and output seals block out contaminants and prevent lubricant leaks.
    These speed reducers have multiple gear teeth that are engaged at the same time to create more torque than other same-size reducers. They’re also more durable for a long service life. All are permanently lubricated to save maintenance time and effort. Connect them to a motor using a shaft coupling (not included).

    Sanitary Right-Angle Speed Reducers for Face-Mount AC Motors

    With a sanitary design for food-processing environments, these speed reducers mount to the face of your motor—no coupler required—to slow shafts and increase torque while transmitting motion at a 90° angle. The 316 stainless steel housing resists corrosion from frequent washdowns with harsh cleaners. Rounded edges and a polished surface make the housing easy to clean and leave no crevices for bacteria to grow in. To protect against leaks and contamination, they have double input and output seals.
    Since multiple teeth come in contact at once, these speed reducers are more durable and create more torque than other speed reducers of the same size. They’re often used to generate large amounts of torque in tight spaces. To save maintenance time, they’re permanently lubricated.
