Use one socket to switch between two fastener sizes. The spring-loaded innermost wall stays in place for smaller fasteners; push the socket onto a larger fastener and this wall slides out of the way.

With twice as many corners, 12-point sockets grab onto hex-drive fasteners more quickly than 6-point sockets. They also match the external 12-point screws commonly found in heavy duty vehicles such as bulldozers and excavators. Also known as double-hex sockets.
