Keep screws and nuts in common sizes on hand to create vibration-resistant joints. The fasteners in these assortments have serrated flanges that bite into your material to prevent loosening. Since the flange distributes pressure where the screw or nut meets a surface, you don’t need a separate washer. They come in a metal box with a removable tray. Screw length is measured from under the flange.
18-8 stainless steel fasteners are more corrosion resistant than zinc-plated steel fasteners, so they’re better for outdoor use. They have good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic.
