Tapered and Side-Mount External Retaining Rings Assortment

Grab an assortment of tapered and side-mount external retaining rings. Open the tapered rings with retaining ring pliers, pass over the end of a shaft, then release them to spring into a groove. When you don't have access to the end of the shaft, install the E-Style rings from the side and lock them into the groove.

Phosphate-Coated Carbon Steel—The most popular choice, these are strong and wear resistant. Their finish adds some corrosion resistance, but only to minimal dampness.

Spiral External and Internal Retaining Rings Assortment

Wind spiral retaining rings of many sizes into grooves. These are coiled, so no tools are required and they won't fly away during installation. Insert one end into the groove, then wind the rest of the ring into place.

Carbon Steel—The go-to choice. These rings have high strength and wear resistance, but they don't resist rust.

18-8 Stainless Steel—The choice for wet and outdoor environments. These rings resist rust, but they aren't as strong as carbon steel.

Side-Mount, Tapered External, Internal Retaining Rings Assortment

Cover all bases with multiple retaining ring types and styles. Use the retaining ring pliers to install external rings onto shafts and internal rings into bores and housings. When access to a shaft is limited, install the E-Style rings from the side of the shaft and lock them into the groove.

Keep a range of hog ring sizes on hand to close sacks, attach tags, and make repairs. They hold more securely than staples and cable ties. Use hog ring pliers (not included) to close these rings.

Humped Hog Ring—Close into a triangle like D hog rings, but have a humped shape that makes it easier to squeeze larger, wider rings closed.

Galvanized Steel—Resist rust in wet and outdoor environments but corrode when exposed to salt water and chemicals.

18-8 Stainless Steel—Won’t rust in wet or outdoor environments and stand up to chemicals and solvents.
