    Tapping Threaded Inserts for Hardwood

    The sharp threads on these inserts cut into hardwood for a secure hold. They install in one step, so they’re ideal for quickly creating a lot of threaded connections in wooden fixtures and panels. All you need is a drill and an installation bit. Also known as knife-thread inserts.
    Zinc-Plated Steel—A step up from plain steel, the plating withstands occasional exposure to moisture.
    Brass—Conductive and nonmagnetic, these inserts are useful for electrical applications. They resist moisture but aren't as strong as steel inserts.
    18-8 Stainless Steel—The choice for wet and outdoor environments, these inserts resist rust and mild chemicals.

    Install tapping inserts into metal, plastic, and wood with these tools. They have hardened steel threads that grip the full length of the insert for strong, rigid support as the insert cuts threads. The result is a straight and stable install.
    Square Shank—These tools don’t have a handle. Attach them to a tap wrench to turn.
    Loosening Nut—After installation, this nut lets you unthread the tool without unthreading the insert.
