Immediately cut power to machinery by breaking the light beam between two barriers. Light beams can travel up to 32 or 65 feet between the transmitter and receiver. They’re rated IP67, so they can be used in wet areas. For a complete switching system, combine a transmitter and receiver, safety relay, and connectors (all sold separately).

These switches can be configured for complex setups. To selectively allow material to pass through the sensing field, you can program the system to allow one or more beams to be broken without shutting off your machine. To create a perimeter guard that bends around corners, add mirrors to reflect light beams at an angle.

Note: These switches cannot be used with a full-revolution clutch press or machine. Use only with machinery that can consistently and immediately stop anywhere in its cycle.

Hand-safe switches trigger from objects the size of a hand passing through—but not slimmer objects such as a finger. For switches with a light beam height up to 9.4", you’ll need four fixed or two swivel brackets. For switches with a light beam height of 12.6" and greater, you’ll need four fixed or four swivel brackets.

Swivel brackets can be adjusted during and after installation for easy alignment.

Safety Relays

Safety relays send a signal to shut off your machinery when the light beams are breached and restart when the issue is resolved. IP20 rated, they have recessed terminals that prevent fingers and other objects from touching live circuits. Mount them to 35 mm DIN rail (also known as DIN 3 Rail) for fast installation. These relays meet ISO and IEC standards for machine safety and can help achieve PL, SIL, or CAT system ratings.

Light Beam Safety Barrier Switches for Long Distances

Spanning up to 230 ft.—roughly the length of a commercial airplane—these safety barrier switches cut power to large machinery to prevent damage or injury. They trigger the instant a person or object crosses the light beams between the transmitter and receiver.
