Washdown Limit Switches

Rated NEMA 3S and IP69K, these switches can handle washdowns with high pressures and temperatures. They’re also protected from oil/coolant spraying, precipitation, and temporary submersion. When an object in motion contacts the actuator, it sends a signal to open or close a circuit. These switches have the rapid-closing action of a snap-acting switch, but with a larger actuator. This makes them a good choice for use with large objects—for instance, a box on a conveyor runs into the switch, stopping the conveyor.
Switches with a plunger actuator require a push to actuate, similar to a button.
Switches with a roller plunger actuator trigger just like a plunger actuator but reduce friction during actuation thanks to their roller. This limits wear and tear on the switch.
Switches with a roller lever actuator combine the larger actuation area of a standard lever with a smooth gliding roller actuator. They minimize friction to limit wear and tear on your switch.
Switches with a rod actuator use a rod extending out of the body to actuate, so they’ll activate even if an object is far away.
Switches with a wobble stick actuator have an arm that rotates 360°, so you don’t need to align it in a specific direction. Since the actuator is flexible, it won’t snap if pushed backward. That makes these switches a great choice for systems that get jammed often.
Styles D, E, and F let you adjust the actuator’s height to align it with your target.

DC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches

Nano
M8 Plug

Micro
M12 Plug
Also known as inductive proximity switches, these detect metallic objects even if they’re obscured by water, oil, dirt, or a surface finish. Sensing distance is based on the target material. The distance listed is for mild steel. They’re often used with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and produce PNP or NPN signal output. To determine the signal output of a switch you are replacing, use Testers for Proximity and Photoelectric Switches (not included).
Flush switches, also known as embeddable or shielded switches, can be mounted so that the sensor face is level with the surface of any material, including metal. They’re more accurate than projecting switches at close range and can be mounted close together without causing interference. Projecting switches, also known as non-embeddable or unshielded switches, must be mounted with the area around the sensor face free of metal. They have a longer sensing distance than flush switches with the same diameter.
Switches with a plug connect to cables with a socket (sold separately), allowing you to quickly connect and disconnect the switch.
Switches with IO link can be configured remotely when connected to a PLC, a human-machine interface (HMI), or a computer.
IP67 and IP68 rated switches are protected from temporary submersion. IP69K rated switches are protected from high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns.

DC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches for Long Distances

Micro
M12 Plug
Sense objects from farther away than with other proximity switches that have the same diameter. Also known as inductive proximity switches, they remotely sense metallic objects even if they’re obscured by water, oil, dirt, or a surface finish. Sensing distance is based on the type of material being sensed. The distance listed is for mild steel. They’re often used with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and produce PNP signal output. Some automatically sense whether PNP or NPN signal output is needed.
Switches with a 4-pole Micro M12 plug connect to cables with a socket (sold separately), allowing you to quickly connect and disconnect the switch.
Switches with IO Link can be configured remotely when connected to a PLC, a human-machine interface (HMI), or a computer. They let you remotely change your settings, view measurements, and receive error messages.
All are rated IP69K for protection from high-temperature, high-pressure washdowns. Some are also rated NEMA 6P, 13, and IP67 for protection from corrosion, oil/coolant spraying, and temporary submersion.

Eliminate the need to calculate the sensing distance when using different metals—these switches sense all metal at the same distance. Also known as inductive proximity switches, they remotely sense metallic objects even if they’re obscured by water, oil, dirt, or a surface finish. They’re often used with programmable logic controllers (PLCs). All meet American, Canadian, and European safety standards. They’re also rated IP66, IP68, and IP69K for protection against dust, temporary submersion, and high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns. Also known as K=1 sensors.

They have a longer sensing distance than flush switches.
Stainless steel switches resist corrosion better than brass switches. They’re best for harsh environments.
Switches with a plug connect to cables with a socket (sold separately), so you can quickly connect and disconnect the switch.

Rotatable DC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches

Micro
M12 Plug

Turn the face on these switches to sense metallic objects from the front, sides, top, or bottom. They’re a good replacement for limit switches with actuators that often break when hit. Also known as inductive proximity switches, they detect objects even if they’re covered by water, oil, dirt, or a surface finish. They’re often used in conveyor and bin filling systems, refineries, and mills. Sensing distance is based on the type of material being sensed; the distance listed is for mild steel. LED status indicators on the corners mean you can check your switch from any angle. All switches meet American, Canadian, and European safety standards.
You can send PNP or NPN signals from these switches to programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Use Testers for Proximity and Photoelectric Switches to determine the signal output of a switch you’re replacing.
Flush switches, also known as embeddable and shielded switches, are more accurate than projecting switches at close range. They also won’t cause interference when mounted close together. The sensor face mounts evenly with any material, including metal.
Projecting switches, also called non-embeddable and unshielded switches, sense objects farther away than flush switches. But, they require the area around the sensor to be free of metal.
Switches with a 4-pole micro M12 plug connect to cables with a socket (sold separately), so you can quickly connect and disconnect them. To view switch wiring diagrams, select a part number and click Product Detail. Attach switches with screw terminals to optional M12 connectors with a receptacle to convert them to a standard 4-pole M12 plug.
All switches seal out dust and stand up to some submersion. IP69- and IP69K-rated switches also handle high-pressure washdowns.

Hazardous Location Rotatable DC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches
Twist the sensor to detect metallic objects where explosive dust or gas may be present—the sensor rotates for front, side, top, or bottom sensing. These switches are UL and C-UL listed as well as ATEX and IECEx certified for hazardous locations. Their NAMUR signal produces low current and low voltage, so they won’t spark or ignite. You must connect them to a barrier (sold separately), which reduces the current and voltage that enters your hazardous area. Install the barrier in a separate location that doesn’t contain explosive gas or dust.
Because you can rotate their sensor, these switches make good replacements for limit switches with actuators that could break when hit. They’re often known as inductive proximity switches and detect objects even if they’re covered by water, oil, dirt, or a surface finish. Sensing distance is based on the type of material that’s sensed; the distance listed is for mild steel. Send signals from these switches to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to support automated processes.
These switches have a 4-pole micro M12 plug that connects to cables with a socket (sold separately), so you can quickly connect and disconnect them. You can also check on them from any angle, thanks to LED status indicators on their corners. All are CE marked for safety.
To view switch wiring diagrams, select a part number and click Product Detail.
Flush switches, also called embeddable and shielded switches, are more accurate than projecting switches at close range. They also won’t interfere with each other’s signals when installed close together. Their sensor face mounts evenly with any material, including metal.
Projecting switches, also known as non-embeddable and unshielded switches, sense objects farther away than flush switches. But, the area around the sensor must be metal free.
IP rated, all switches seal out dust and water from high-pressure washdowns. IP67- and IP68-rated switches also withstand some submersion.

AC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches for Long Distances

Micro
All are rated NEMA 6P, 13, IP67 and IP69K.
Switches with a 3-pole Micro M12 plug connect to cables with a socket (sold separately), allowing you to quickly connect and disconnect the switch.

DC Universal-Object Proximity Switches

Micro
M12 Plug
Also known as capacitive proximity switches, these remotely sense both metallic and nonmetallic objects, but their strength is in sensing materials such as plastic, ceramic, and clear targets. Sensing distance is based on the type of material being sensed. The distance listed is for mild steel. Often used with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), they produce PNP or NPN signal output. To determine the signal output of a switch you are replacing, use Testers for Proximity and Photoelectric Switches (not included).
Projecting switches, also known as non-embeddable or unshielded switches, must be mounted with the area around the sensor face free of metal. They have a longer sensing distance than flush switches with the same diameter.
Switches with a plug connect to cables with socket (sold separately), allowing you to quickly connect and disconnect the switch.
Switches with IO link can be configured remotely when connected to a PLC, a human-machine interface (HMI), or a computer.
IP65 switches are protected from washdowns. Switches rated IP67 are protected from temporary submersion. Choose IP69K switches to withstand high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns.

Rated NEMA 6P, 12, IP68 and IP69K, these switches protect against corrosion and high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns. Also known as capacitive proximity switches, they remotely sense both metallic and nonmetallic objects but their strength is in sensing materials such as plastic, ceramic, and clear targets. They’re often used with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and produce PNP or NPN signal output. To determine the signal output of a switch you are replacing, use Testers for Proximity and Photoelectric Switches (not included). They mount flush with the surface of any material, including metal, and are also known as embeddable or shielded switches. The 4-pole Micro M12 plug connects to cables with sockets (sold separately), allowing you to quickly connect and disconnect the switch.
