Push-On External Retaining Rings



No groove required—press these rings onto the end of a shaft. Use them on unhardened shafts that are softer than the push ring. The ring bites into the metal to form an interference grip. Styles A, B, and C have teeth that dig into the shaft material, so expect minor scratching. Use a push nut installation tool (sold separately) to install rings, or install them manually.
1050 spring steel and 1060-1090 spring steel rings are an economical choice with good strength. A black finish is the result of a heat treatment to darken them—making them ideal for blending into dark backgrounds. However, these rings will rust if exposed to moisture. Black-phosphate finish is mildly corrosion resistant in dry environments. In wet environments, a zinc yellow-chromate plated finish has some corrosion resistance, and a zinc chromate plated finish has good corrosion resistance.
15-7 PH stainless steel rings have high strength with good corrosion resistance. Rings are passivated for added protection against corrosion.

Side-Mount External Retaining Rings

Also known as E-style rings, these rings have three prongs that make contact with the shaft and provide a wider shoulder than other external rings for a larger retaining surface. Use a side-mount retaining ring tool (sold separately) to push them into the groove from the side of the shaft. Ring OD is measured with the ring uninstalled.
1060-1090 spring steel and spring steel rings are an economical choice with good strength. A black-phosphate finish is mildly corrosion resistant in dry environments. DIN 1.4122 stainless steel rings withstand wear caused by abrasion, similar to 400 series stainless steel. Rings are passivated for added protection against corrosion.
Thrust load capacity, also known as PR, is based on using a shaft that is harder than the ring.

No groove required—these rings have teeth that firmly grip the bore. Use them in unhardened shafts that are softer than the push ring. The metal must be soft enough for the ring to form an interference grip. Not recommended for use with nickel-, chrome-, or nitride-coated shafts.
1060-1090 spring steel rings are an economical choice with good strength. The black-phosphate finish is mildly corrosion resistant in dry environments.

Internal Teeth Retaining Rings

With teeth along the inside, these retaining rings hold chamfered shafts inside the housing of your equipment. That’s why they’re commonly used to retain shafts in roller drum systems and other heavy duty equipment. Made from spring steel, squeeze them into or remove them from the groove with retaining ring pliers. These rings have a black-phosphate finish that won’t corrode in dry environments. All meet DIN 984, an international standard for retaining ring specifications.
Ring OD is measured with the ring uninstalled.

Round Push Nuts

With flexible teeth that slide smoothly over threads of any pitch, these push nuts can be used as a standalone nut for light-duty applications or as a jam nut to keep hex nuts and bolts securely fastened. All nuts have a finish that protects the steel from corrosion in wet environments.
Nuts finished with black phosphate have a dark surface color.
Installation tools (sold separately) save you time when you’re installing nuts back-to-back. They have a magnetized tip, so nuts won’t fall off while you’re sliding them on.

Installation Tools for Press-Fit Nuts

Side-Mount External Retaining Ring Assortments


Also known as E-Style and C-style rings, slide these into the groove from the side of the shaft. They provide a wider shoulder than other external retaining rings for a larger retaining surface. All are magnetic.
